calendar's don't reappear after restarting thunderbird

I'm using lightning 1.0b1 with thunderbird portable 3.0.3. When opening calendars (eg via file>open>calendar file or via new calendar) the calendars only stay visible during the current session. Closing thunderbird and reopening causes them to disappear, I have to repeat the exercise. How can I save them, so they appear automatically? thanks, Janneke
