First-blush Drumbeat Local event kit description
Hey friends,
I just created a new wiki page,

that has some initial thinking about what we should be putting into the
Drumbeat Local event kit.
If you would be so kind as to have a look and edit as you see fit, I
invite all kinds of feedback:
* Do you think it looks like an appealing offering to prospective event
organizers?
* What's missing?
* Anything already in there that we don't need?
* Any ideas on other places where parts of this event kit have been done
well?
* Any other thoughts?
Thanks in advance for kickin

Next rev of event blurbage, call for organizers
Hey all
As I mentioned in the other thread, asked Allen Gunn from Aspiration to
take on a leadership role in Drumbeat event strategy and design.
Based on my earlier notes plus comments in the other event thread, I've
worked w/ Gunner to write up this 'call for organizers' wiki page:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Drumbeat/events/organizers
This wiki page has two purposes 1) describe our (updated) approach to
the events and 2) encourage organizers to put up their hands.
It would be great to get feedback, ideas and improvements in response to
this, and then we'll iterate again.

Hey all
I've written up draft drumbeat.org copy describing how the project
process will work -- and they kind of support we'll offer:

While this is pretty much the way we've been talking about projects all
along, the specifics are new.
It would be great if a couple (or more) people could take a look at this
in the next day or so. I'm interested to know:
- Is the process we're describing clear? If not, what should we clarify?
- Will the process we're proposing motivate people with project ideas to
participate in D

As we've discussed, major opportunity in this space. What you've written is a good start.
In terms of evolving, I'd back up a little on your overall objective, which is:
"Helping Primary and Secondary Education make the most of the open web."
In terms of Drumbeat, there is an important and subtle change I'd make, which might do something like:
"Helping students in primary and secondary education to contribute to making the web more open, and learn something along the way."
Why do I say this? Because it's only a Drumbeat project if it helps people *contribute* to t

A Drumbeat Project For K-12 Education
I've done a bit of head-scratching over what a Drumbeat project aimed
at K-12 Education might look like. In thinking through how Mozilla

Drumbeat Definition Sentences
This thread is for the sentences people came up with to define Drumbeat
at the session at FOSDEM on 6th February 2010. If you were there, please
post yours.
Note that these sentences were then subject to further discussion, and
may contain contradictory ideas :-) It's all part of a process of
getting on the same page as to what Drumbeat is.
Mine is:

enhance the open web."

Hey everyone - first poster here :)
I'm Campbell Vertesi, one of the Project Managers who worked on the
Drumbeat alpha site for Trellon. I've been wanting to put in my oar for
awhile...
Alex, that's a really cool idea for a way to make RL events cross over
into the digital domain. In fact, Matt talked with us a bit about the
idea of using badges , awards, or ranks as a kind of social currency

Need feedback: early notes on Drumbeat event strategy
Hi all
As most of you know, creating many small local events is critical to the
Drumbeat strategy.
After speaking w/ a number of you, I've written up some notes to help us
develop a concrete strategy on these events:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Drumbeat/events
Allen Gunn from Aspiration (http://aspirationtech.org) is helping to
turn these notes into a plan. Will have something in the next week or so.
In the meantime, it would be great to hear:
- What do people think of this general plan? What are the obvious ways
we could improve it?
- Who is already thinking they wou

Viva La Drumbeat!
Hello Folks,
Hope everyone on the list is well :-)
I just wanted to let everyone here know that i would still love to work
on the Drumbeat project as a Drupal Developer / Site administrator.
Is it possible to download the latest drumbeat code of SVN? I heard
there was a stage server somewhere :-)
I have been doing a lot of work recently on the spreadthundebird.com
site mostly migrating our affiliates, addtoany, .. modules onto Drupal 7
for our site upgrade later this year :-)
I'll be catching up a little on Drumbeat and looking over what has been

Firefox Wants You!
Hi guys,
I am about to start a website called "Firefox Wants You!". Its goal
would to promote Firefox and open web standards. At its beginning it
would be some kind of a "tell a friend + mailing list" hybrid, from
where one can invite his/her friends to start using Firefox explaining
why it is the best browser in the world, and also get a reminder that
a new version of Firefox has been published.
I would like to hear your opinions on this and perhaps suggestions how
to make this website more useful to us. So, lets brainstorm!

Hi all,
I have updated the home page with the new torn, shaded header. (I also
adjusted some of the other elements to bring them in line with new
treatments made on other parts of the site).

This should give you a sense of how the new torn/ shadowed header without
the squiggly white divider looks in the context of a page.
I am really happy with how it is looking at this point.
Thoughts?

From:

Rising Projects?
Growing Projects?
What's the best label here?

thoughts on the front page design v2.12
hello all,
i just wanted to post some thoughts on the mockup of the drumbeat
website front page that i saw recently (v2.12).
generally, i think it's looking really great.
a few small suggestions:
1. i think the mission statement of the site ('mozilla drumbeat
connects...') feels buried in it's current placement. i expect a lot
of people will be coming to the site wondering what it is, and i think
having that tagline in the header or above the featured projects would
really help.
2. i am kind of a skeptic on tag clouds as a form of navigation. to
me, that space would be b

needs a soundtrack
Hey all
At a party last night, someone said to me:
"drumbeat needs a soundtrack"
The idea was that we need to show the idea behind drumbeat -- one beat
from one drum, then another, and another, slowly getting louder, faster
and more rhythmic.
Part of this suggestion related to the fact that many people may think
of a drumbeat more as a military marching band, and that we need to show
the kind of drumbeat we're imagining.
Any creative ideas on this? Anyone here belong to a drumming circle that
wants to be recorded?

Better 'ideas' parking lot
Hey all
As a part of the Drumbeat 'placeholder' page process, I am wondering if
we could also create some sort of project ideas parking lot?
I'm noticing more ideas coming up (eg. Carlos' idea, ones I'm posting,
things I am hearing in back channel). This is great, and makes me more
confident Drumbeat will attract attention when we official 'open it'.
In the mean time, I am a bit worried that we might be missing or losing
ideas -- and that there is no consistent template for expressing them.
A 'parking lot' page could fix this. It would be a simple wiki page with:

Perhaps converting them, and then uploading them as .ogg instead of .mp3

You could ask Asa what software he uses when he makes (or converts to)
