Fire TV button 1.03
Hi,
I have noticed that someone have removed my Firefox add-on name Fire
TV Button and deleted my account =96 username: sharonst@windowslive.com.
I haven't received any message from you so I wonder why my add-on was
removed.
Can you please put it back online and re-active my account?
Thanks, Sharon Smith

Add-on Collector: Is there a way to force an update of the collection?
I use the extension as a way to produce an online listing of my add-
ons. What I am not seeing is a way to tell the extension to update
collection associated with the browser/profile I am currently using if/
when I have uninstalled extensions that I no longer need/want and/or
installed new ones that I intend to keep. I do not wish to look at the
collection days later and find an add-on I uninstalled still showing
up. I would prefer that, much like Weave, my online collection will
accurately reflect what I have installed on my browser/profile within
a matter of minutes.

Thoughts on Contribution pilot?
Directed mainly at AMO site admins:
I'm involved in the Drupal project, and I posted a suggestion for
implementing a concept on drupal.org that seems to have a similar
rationale as that of AMO's Contribution pilot.
While the communities might be somewhat different (Drupal is very much
service-based), I think we could still learn from the experiences of
the pilot. In our discussion, some have pointed out that on the raw
financial end, it wouldn't appear to be worth it to implement an
integrated donation feature. What I was wondering was whether anyone

Altering javascript before execution
Hello!
I'm using Firefox 3.6. I want to intercept javascript on a site and

Old Mozilla Suite Composer - current version that replaced this?
Hello,
I am mostly a novice web developer - brought 3 - 4 up but no pro for
sure.
For years, I would use the "Composer" in the Mozilla Suite to WYSIWYG
edits to a page. Simple I know...still use it but every time says
please upgrade - no longer supported. Tried to find this version to
download on another machine but can't find it - guessing will not be
able to.
They didn't take this editor away did they? With currrent versions of
Mozilla - Firefox? how can I get this replaced?
Thanks,

Is there a way to take plug-in in effect immediately after installation which not require Firefox restart?
Hi all,
I am looking for a solution that not need FF to reboot after addon
installed.
My situation is like this:
My client has a web service need to call an exist library written by C+
+. I make the lib as a plug-in by using npapi, and build an xpi
installation package.
When the xpi got installed, restart FF, and FF tries to restore the
session, but it failed on this step because the server regards user
has logged out when it detects browser has closed. And the failure
breaks the business.
Do I need to redesign my implementation? Is there any technology can

Hi,
I'm trying to write an add-on that resets the current search engine to
the default engine after a certain period of time.
I've tried setting the preference values of

I had a look at nsIBrowseSearchService but couldn't find any function
that allows search engine reset / setting current search engine.

Extension Beta update channel
Summary at the end of post.
Many extension developers are often lone individuals with limited
resources to fully test their extension before a release (given the
matrix of OSs, application versions, working with other themes and
extensions, and new features to test). This leads to bugs that may not
become apparent in the testing phase and may bypass the extension
reviewer. Any fix that the developer makes needs to go back to the add-
on reviewer, and the cycle repeats itself indefinite until all the
bugs are fixed. Often, this is a slow and frustrating problem.

Having New Window Always on Top and XUL Cross-talking?
Hi,
I'm trying to have a new window pop-up that will always stay on top of all
other tabs as long as the browser window is open. Is there a way I can set
the window configurations such that this is possible?
Also, is there a way I can get a form data (i.e. user input) from one xul
file in another xul file? Namely, I have a textbox form field on the toolbar
but I want the new window to be able to process the user input of that form
field in the new window...Is there a way for this to be done?
Thanks!

[TB] customDBHeaders / Content-Type
Hi,
I'm trying to read out the MIME content-type via getStringProperty()

https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Extensions/Thunderbird/Creating_a_Custom_Column,
but it won't work (I've added "content-type" to the

After inspecting TB's sources, it seems to me TB already reads out

Batching add-on updates...
[Followups to mozilla.dev.apps.firefox]
One common complaint about Firefox is that it "updates too often". It
has been suggested that users may actually be complaining about frequent
*add-on* updates, and not Firefox security updates.
The thought struck me that we could help mitigate this by batching
add-on updates so they occur less frequently. As a simple example, have
AMO defer advertising updates until the first Wednesday after the update
is approved. Consider a user with lots of frequently-updated extensions
installed -- instead of experiencing an update nearly daily, th

cache/bookmark HTTP POST request
One of the financial portal provides information about stocks I'm
interested in. Accessing this information requires filling a complex
form, that sends data using HTTP POST method. I'm interested in caching
HTTP Request on the client-side (browser) and re-sending it every week.
Caching HTTP Response doesn't make sense in this application context,
because stock data changes quite often.
I know it is not recommended to cache HTTP POST request, because by
definition it not an idempotent operation (http://tinyurl.com/yj2mge6).
However, in this case it behaves as idempotent HTTP G

Serving different extension versions for different Firefox versions?
Can AMO serve Firebug 1.5 to Firefox 3.6 users but continue to serve
Firebug 1.4 to Firefox 3.5 and 3.0 users?
When Firefox 3.5 shipped, Firebug 1.4 was not ready. So AMO served
Firebug 1.4b to Firefox 3.5 users but we could not update Firefox 3.0
users and they could not install Firebug 1.4. We want to avoid this mess
for Firefox 3.6.

Review Process Redesign, v2
Hello all,
I've reviewed your feedback regarding the first proposal
(http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.amo/browse_thread/thread/b37b30ab41d7bebd)
and made some adjustments based on it.
The main difference in this version is that it includes an author
reputation system that will be added to the criteria editors will have
available to evaluate add-ons and decide if the are "reliable" or not.
Please have a look an tell me what you think.

Review of my add-on
Hey guys,
I submitted an update to my SpellBound add-on a while ago. The issue
is that I had initially released an update (3.0.7) that had a small
bug in it so I went back and released a new verison (3.0.8) and
deleted 3.0.7. When I did this it seems that I lost a few reviews that
were given to the add-on. Now, I am afraid that the update may fall
through the cracks and never get approved!. So two questions:
1) Was there a better way to submit a fix to my update?
2) How long should I expect to wait until the update is approved?
The update added language support to the spell-ch

Feedback on parts of new Add-on Developer Hub
Hi there,
If you follow AMO news at all, you've probably heard about our upcoming
developer site -- the one-stop shop for add-on developers to find out
why they'd want to make an add-on, how to make an add-on, and manage
their add-ons on AMO.
We're getting close to release of this site at the end of the month, and
we have a good bit of content ready, so I'd like to ask for any feedback
you have, mainly on the specific sections mentioned below.

Review Process Redesign Proposal
Hello,
My name is Jorge Villalobos and I'm the new Add-ons Developer Relations
Lead at Mozilla.
One of the most challenging tasks of my position consists in improving
the add-on review process, which is currently too slow for most add-on
authors and simultaneously very taxing to our current editor team.
Justin Scott provided a proposal for this some time ago, which garnered
lots of useful feedback. I've used Justin's proposal and your responses
to create this new proposal, which attempts to find the right balance

A few questions about Experimental state
Hi,
I apologize in advance if this is not the right place for this
question, but I've read all of the documentation, and searched in
various places but could not find the answers I need.
I understand that if I submit a new addon, it is in the sandbox, and
is not available to the public. But every user who is registered to
the AMO site can see my addon (marked as experimental) and install it
if he approves the terms?
All docs I found talk about enabling sandbox, but it is obsolete,
right?
I saw a lot of docs about what it needs in order to get the addon
approved, but are there an

Small bug in Add-on's website Developer Tools pages
This is for the add-on's website developers.
When a new version of an existing add-on is uploaded the selected
license option
does not appear as being checked when the "Update" button is clicked
I tried doing this 3 times in a row and the selected option didn't
"catch" at any time
after the "Update" button was clicked (none of the license options
appeared as being selected)
This is a minor problem and so I didn't think it was worth doing a
full Mozilla bug report.

Hello,
I sent three messages to the "amo-editors@mozilla.org" mailing list,
at various moments during the last three weeks, but got no responses
so far. I think one of the following may have happened:
* My messages didn't arrive to the list.
* The replies didn't reach me.
* Nobody answered to the messages.
I'm wondering if there's a specific reason why there is only a private
mailing list (I mean without public archives) where editors can be
contacted, or it is just how things were set up in the beginning and
the situation is likely to change as new needs emerge.
Of course,

Why are addons that are essentially malware tolerated on the site?
The Fast Browser Search addon is a highly disruptive and abusive addon
which interferes with basic Firefox functionality and has been made
deliberately difficult to remove. I'm very surprised this sort of
hostile activity has been tolerated in an addon, and I'm not sure how
it passed the review process.
Essentially this addon brings Internet Explorer style browser
hijacking to the Firefox world. It's really quite horrible, and needs
to be removed, and the author permanently banned from providing addons
in the future.
You're losing credibility with every day you allow this abusive

I will try to keep this civil, but I'm really livid about this. I
submitted an updated version of my addon, EditPrefs, on 27 Jul (it's
not much of an addon I know, but that's neither here nor there). As
the days passed by, I'd take a look at the status (through 'Manage

to that effect) to see if it's been approved and made public. Days
pass by, then weeks. Nothing. Finally, I start poking/playing around

Transparency of the review queue process is needed above all else
I am an add-on author waiting for my add-on to be reviewed, so my
comments should be read in that context.
Firstly, the "experimental" label and checkbox make me feel better
about waiting for my add-on to be reviewed.
However, I would personally be reluctant to download an "experimental"
add-on and I am sure the vast majority of the public feel the same way
(worries about viruses etc)
Secondly, its quite clear to me that its the lack of transparency of
the review process that upsets add-on authors, NOT the waiting for the
review to happen. There are several issues here;

Hi mozilla.dev.amo,
I check for the recently updated addons daily and I would really
appreciate if you could include the update's date in the addons list

I suggest the above because sometimes I see an addon on the recently
updated list page and I have to open the addon's link on a new tab to
see the update's date and often the last update has been several
months ago so it's not a recent update at all. It would save time to
see the update's date on the list.
Exactly the same happens with the version. On the recently updated

Firefox Landing Page
Hi,
I'm going slightly nuts trying to re-establish the Firefox home page
as the plain page with the Google search bar in the centre. At the
moment I have the awful Winamp media MP3 page - this happened when I
downloaded the latest version of Firefox.

Removing the Sandbox
I think code review by editors is indispensable as most other 'trusted
score' methods are easily to fake.
Suggestions
1. Limit the regular update interval of addons:
There are addons that release updates every 2 weeks but still get
reviewed. This binds enormous editor capacities and prevents other
addons from being reviewed. Thus I propse to limit the update interval
of addons to e.g. every 6 months as minimum. Allow necessary extra
updates, but only if the author can assure that it is e.g. an
essential security update. If the author repeately abuses extra
updates ignore them for

Facilities for 'old school' methods of payment?
I still don't trust the online payment methods. I might one day grow
to trust the encryption systems, but i will never ever trust my bank
as far as credit cards are concerned.
If the developers give out their 'real' addresses(snail mail
addresses) it would be convenient for me to contribute. I just love
Firefox and its extensions and by extension, its developers and it
frustrates me that i can't find a way to do what my heart tells me to.

AMO Contributions - issue
Hello,
First of all thanks for starting this pilot, I think it was something
that a lot of developers wanted (including me) and it could have a
positive impact to the community.
It seems slightly buggy for now though: I've enabled the "Only ask on
this add-on's page and developer profile" option for zoomFox (
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1067 ) but the
contribution button does not appear on the main page of the extension.
It does appear on the meet the developer page. The only way to make it
appear on the main page is to log in into the website. Is that

Add-on Collector - Auto Publisher issue - can not re-associate the collection?
Hi I have created a new ff profile and installed Add-on Collector,
logged in and wanted to re-associate with my previously created Auto
Publisher collection...
Although it was shown at the top of the list of subscriptions, under a
dotted line, when I tried to re-associate it was a no go :(
Even using the same name for the collection - a new collection was
created.
Am I trying to use this feature in a way that is not correct?
I could install all the add-ons then create a new Auto Publisher
collection and delete the old one I suppose, but ten all of my
comments will be lost :'-(

Add-on Collector - Can no longer see my new collections as subscriptions.
Its convenient to subscribe to my own collections to see how others
will see them...
This no longer seems to be working?
e.g.
I have created the collection below and added it to my favourites but
it is not showing in my subscriptions.
"Workswonders - Speedups - Better Faster Stronger"
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/collection/workswonders-faster
I unsubscribed to "Workswonders - Privacy Pack" and then re added to
my favourites as a test...
Now it is not showing in my subscriptions :(

Add-on Collector - site database may need cleaning of orphans.
Great Product but the site database may need cleaning of orphans e.g.
This search works:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search?q=workswonders&cat=collections
Yep I see "Workswonders - Web Hack Pack"
but what about this...

[Idea] integrate a tool that makes it 'far' easier to compare the same or similar types of add-ons
This is something that could be invaluable as time goes on!
Something that highlights all the main '&' minor points of difference
so people can more easily make informed decisions.
Perhaps even a tool that goes further & makes suggestions (if wanted)
based on some pre-defined needs/parameters. But also based on a add-
ons compatibility and the performance/stability impact it may have on
the build in question...
Just a concept, could be very cool & help keep you guys slightly
abreast of the Big G!

AMO Contributions - an issue (and a suggestion whilst I am here)
Hi Folks, great to see the addition of contributions to help us devs
out :-)
Issue: I have set up my developers profile and the contribution
suggestion. This appears on the addon page fine, but if you click on
the contribute link, a page comes up saying the developer has not
enabled contributions. Addon 5203.
Suggestion:
I do feel the workflow for contributors is not quite right (accepting
that this is a pilot). Most people I would expect would like to trial
an addon before contributing for a few days. This means that the
mainstay of contributors are going to be people that spe

Current process for sandbox etiquette?
Hi all,
I've searched this group and read the directions as AMO, but I'm still
not entirely clear about the sandbox process. I just recently made an
extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12854
and it is in the sandbox currently. On the developer tools site, it
says I need to nominate it in order for it to see the light of the day
in public status. It also says that it needs to first be reviewed in
order to do that. So, do I reach out to developers to test / review
it? Does it go into a queue of sorts where it will be looked at in
time, or to only people who
