Please Help Testing: SeaMonkey 1.1.19 (1.x end-of-the-line) candidate builds
Hi all,
For one last time, I tagged a CVS tree for a SeaMonkey 1.x release, and
for one lat time, I made my to-be-retired old tinderbox machines spin
release candidate builds.
We will be releasing SeaMonkey 1.1.19, with the same base as Thunderbird
2.0.0.24, without a lot of actual release fanfare, actually, the big
announcement will be the end of the line for SeaMonkey 1.x, that there
is one last release will not be much more than a remark in that
announcement that is to be made as soon as we have some useful testing
and Thunderbird is ready to push their release as well.

Bookmarks manager style?
While I'm working on switching our bookmarks system to be backed by the
places backend, I'm trying to keep the user interface as similar as
possible to the current look and feel in most cases, but considering
some slight improvements - esp. where the new backend allows more
features to be used.
The parts directly in the browser window are easy to do that way and go
naturally, but when it comes to management of bookmarks, I'm getting
slightly unsure how to solve it. We should stay true to what our users
love about our interface but should take lessons from Firefox where we

Progress Window Mockups
Ok Here is the deal:
A vocal minority of people who USE the progress windows don't like them
as they stand.
These people wish to have changes made.
KaiRo, the original owner of this area has abandoned it due to "stop
energy" when he tried to make improvements.
*I* Am willing to pickup work, however I am self-proclaimed "not good at
UI".
So here is what I need (non-coding):
* A bunch of different iterations of UI, preferably full color graphics
(rather than ascii art; though that is acceptable in round 1)
* The UI iterations should detail the following, different downlo

Keystroke for <p> tag insertion?
Hi,
As a default in Composer, hitting enter inserts <br> tags. Is it
possible to assign a keystroke (like shift+enter in Dreamweaver) to
insert <p> tags instead? I know you can use the drop-down, but
keyboard shortcuts are, well, key for workflow.

SeaMonkey 2.1 - Gecko 1.9.2 or 1.9.3?
An increasing number of features are diverging between Gecko 1.9.2 and
Gecko 1.9.3; this gives us a number of options, with pros and cons for
each, but please don't consider this an exhaustive list.
1. Stick with 1.9.2 for now, don't use 1.9.3 features at all
* Pro: We know what features we have to port
* Con: Lots of catching up on trunk after comm-central
forks/after releasing 2.1
2. Write code using feature detection for 1.9.3/backward
compatibility for 1.9.2
* Pro: More flexible than any other option
* Con: Some

Plugins in their own processes
Hi folks,
I'd like to push up an idea again, which is floating around for
a long time (but AFAIK nothing coded yet):
Move plugins to their own processes.
There are lots of reasons to do so:
* proprietary plugins are not trustworthy and compromise
system security and stability (i really dont like the idea of
some proprietary code having full access to my user accounts!)
* they tend to dramatically slow down or even completely lock-up,
sometimes also crash the browser (especially flash).
* binary incompatibilities (eg. 64bit issues, library conflicts, etc)
* exploit

Testing For SeaMonkey 2.0.2 - help wanted!
Hi everyone,
You probably will notice a Firefox 3.5.7 update being published within
the next hours, containing a very small amount of fixes on top of 3.5.6
and you might wonder if a SeaMonkey update is due as well.
Indeed, we are preparing an update with the same few Gecko fixes, we
just waited to have a patch available that avoids the freeze many people
have seen with composing messages in connection with having the "OE

SeaMonkey 2.0.2 only contains this fix in comparison to 2.0.1, as well

There are several problems with this design:
1. The close button takes up some of the real estate on each tab that
has one. Because of this limitation the all-tabs mode only works until a

Bugzilla Locations for test infrastructure bugs
We've got a number of bugs for new test infrastructure or bugs on
improving existing test infrastructure. These are currently tending to
hang around 'Mailnews Core: Build Config' and 'Thunderbird: Build Config'.
I'd like to propose that we get some defined locations for these bugs.
There is a Testing product already defined in bugzilla, but I'm not
convinced we'd fit well in there. For instance, they already have a
'Testing: Mozmill' component, so we'd need to have 'Testing: Thunderbird
Mozmill' or something.
I'm therefore proposing that we create two new components in our "

Threading don't work for one mail address
Hi,
I have several email accounts and to one of them I am receiving an
email notice from a web forum when new posts are posted on threads I
have subscribed to. The account is not used for any other purpose.
On SM 1.1.18 the emails concerning the same forum thread was always
threaded in my inbox for the mail account. Now on SM 2.0 the threading
don't work on that specific email account, as it does for all other
accounts.
When testing to send "ordinary" email to the "forum mail account" and
replying from and to it, the mails are threaded. So I guess something

2.0.2pre ate my theme
I recently was running a 2.0.2pre copy on a machine, and was told "A new version
of Mostly Crystal is available, update?" Like a fool I clicked [update_now] and
the download started. Then it stopped and a message flashed "The stumblesum of
garf did not match, theme deleted." Then SM came up in some grey on grey theme,
and my Mostly Crystal is gone.
Now errors in signature or checksum are good, but deciding that if the update
fails the working older version should be nuked is really user hostile.
Yes, compatibility checking was off, virtually nothing would ever be installed

SM/Gecko vs ligatures
I put up a simple test page at:
http://jhcloos.com/fligs.html
It just tests the string “ffl fl ffi fi” vs the string “ffl fl ffi fi”.
That is to say, cominations of the UCS characters «f», «i» and «l» on
the left, vs those and «Zero Width Non-Joiner» on the right.
Both SM/2.0 and FF (also a 1.9.1.something version of Gecko) correctly
ligate the clusters on the left column of that page, using Dejavu Serif
as my default font.
Nonetheless, SM fails to ligate w/in main text when I view most other
pages. Bold instances do regularly ligate, it is only the main text

Full screen video close button
I'm not exactly keen on the close button that Firefox uses for full
screen video:
http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/browser/themes/pinstripe/browser/KUI-close.png
So I was wondering whether anyone had any other ideas for the close
button. It needs to be designed to fit in the top right 32x32 pixels of
the screen (Firefox simply centres their X within the 32x32 box).
Note that by default the close button and controls are hidden but they
are revealed when the video is paused, or for two seconds whenever you
move the mouse.

Default Browser on Mac
In answering a post from Phillip Jones on mozilla.support.seamonkey, I
noticed that SeaMonkey 2.0.1 has no way to set itself as the default
browser.
The Windows Build does. On Mac OS X, Tiger and above, Camino and Firefox
allow this in Preferences. Is there some reason that the Mac build of
SeaMonkey does not?

Will there be a 64-bit version of a SeaMonkey 2.0.1 release candidate

a 32-bit version of SM 2.0 would not launch under 64-bit Ubuntu 9.10 -
the 32-bit launcher could not find "seamonkey-bin" when that file -was-

SM 2.0 mailnews Password issues
Ran into an interesting problem today; ATT (my isp) had issues with
their email server today. I opened up SM 2.0 (linux) and found that all
but one account (this one) were working. I couldn't send msgs, couldn't
receive msgs etc. I couldn not even log on to the ATT webmail.
So... I bit the bullet & called the tech support. After over nearly 2
hours messing about, I finally got 2nd tier ATT tech support (USA) &
they reset the password. Tested; I could log in via webmail, I could
send & receive via SM 2.0. All seemed OK. Then later this evening I
noticed that I could receive from this

Seamonkey 2 on Solaris 10?
I'm curious if anyone else is attempting to get Seamonkey 2.0 running
on SPARC Solaris 10. I have been able get it compiled, but it will
not run.
Some details:
Since Solaris 10 does not ship with current enough versions of the
GTK+ and friends, I've build the following packages for my use (I
cribbed off the Firefox builds for Solaris 10 for some help here):
atk-1.24
cairo-1.8.8
glib-2.18.4
gtk+-2.14.7
pango-1.22.4
pixman-0.12.0
I'm building with the following options in my .mozconfig file:
mk_add_options MOZ_CO_PROJECT=suite
ac_add_options --enable-application=suite

When I send mail to someone in my personal address book, the address gets
captured in my used addresses book as well, without preferences. The next time I
send I get the warning that this person doesn't want HTML mail. I'd like to stop

I'm hit with this 40-50 times a day, to the point that capture is more trouble

etc. would go. I had to manually set up the local directory on my
machine to give Seamonkey a place to store that.
Something buggy.

Another item
Another new thing for Seamonkey is that if I accidentally select text in
a message and then click reply, it replies only to the text I selected.
I learned that by accident. I am dyslexic a bit and use my mouse to
read. Long story.
Where can I switch that off?

mozilla-1.9.1 - changeset - 26476:49342a1d9d93
I suppose that is the build, even though you call it 2.0.
1) The build did import my address book, but where it got that from I
don't know? I had a person who had 5 addresses. A long time ago I erased
4 from my address book so I could choose and send to one address. When I
installed the new version, all 5 re-appeared.
2) Also my key strokes did not import. I often cc: archive@foo.com in my
out-going mail. Sea-Monkey learned that when I type arch it gives me
archive@foo.com as the first choice. Now it is my 4th choice. I have to
relearn Seamonkey.
3) You changed the install

[ProfD] and its use in configuration/prefs.js (SM 2.0)
I notice that some paths in my about:config page start with [ProfD] -- I
assume this means that the path is relative to the profile directory.
However, not all paths are written thus -- many include the complete path
including (this is Windows) the drive letter. Some paths seem to appear
in both absolute and relative form.
Can all paths in the configuration or prefs.js be written relative to the
profile directory with [ProfD]? In particular, I'd like to get away from
the use of the drive letter so I can move a profile to a different drive (or
change the drive letter of the d

e-mail icons
In Release 2 there seems to be no way of adding icons to the mail tool
bar.
In release 1.1.18 Edit - preferences - mail & newsgroups provided
section of the window with check boxes to select buttons for the tool
bar, eg, file, print - but this is not present in release 2.
Will this be remedied?
Or, how can I add a Print icon to my mail tool bar.
I am running under Windows XP

SM 2.1 & ui.allow_platform_file_picker
Greetings,
in SM 2.1 nothingh happened when i pressed File->Open File in the
browser. The error console remained empty. Now if have found the reason
for that.
It happens with ui.allow_platform_file_picker set to false, which is my
normal setting. Modern under Linux. Now i must tolerate the ugly gtk
file-picker. *g*
Does anyone know if this is a bug or purpose? File->Open File in
MailNews was not affected. There i got the file-picker of Modern.

Picking up the mozilla-central change to gcc-4.2 / Mac SDK 10.5 and above for comm-central
A little while ago, mozilla-central changed to gcc-4.2 and the Mac SDK
10.5 and above. We picked up some of the changes at the time so that our
tinderboxes switched to them, but we failed to pick up some of the other
changes which means that developer builds were still typically building
on gcc 4.0.1 and the 10.4 SDK.
I've just checked in a patch that fixes the remainder of our settings,
so if you're on Mac and are building comm-central with mozilla-central
then you probably want to clobber your build(s) and rebuild from scratch.
This will ensure you've correctly picked up gc

Problem with SeaMonkey 2.0 source?
Not sure if this is a source problem or a build problem. When
I compile SeaMonkey 2.0 from source on Solaris 10, it identifies
itself as:
$ seamonkey2 -v
Mozilla SeaMonkey 2.1a1pre, Copyright (c) 1998-2009 mozilla.org
I'm building from the tarball at
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/2.0/source/seamonkey-2.0.source.tar.bz2
Any ideas?

Acrobat (and its plugin) has problems mailing with Seamonkey 2.0 as the default mail program.
Hi,
Acrobat (I still use 7.1 Professional) in WinXP (and its plugin) has problems
mailing with Seamonkey 2.0 as the default mail program. I get the (not very
helpful) message "Beim Senden von Nachrichten ist ein Fehler aufgetreten" (rough
translation: An error has happened while sending messages).
This used to work with SeaMonkey 1.1.x.
Any idea?
Should I open a bug report?
Regards,

[SM 2.0] Filter news based on any headers
Please see the last 4-5 msgs on
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16913
[Filter news based on any headers]
Note: mozilla.dev.apps.seamonkey has been included in this post.
The original bug is filed as "Filter news based on any headers".
Unfortunately, even though the bug is marked as "RESOLVED FIXED", I
wonder if it actually is.
SeaMonkey 2.0 currently does not have the ability to "Filter news based
on any headers" based on my tests. The most recent test was to test the
'Delivered-To: support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org' based on the "WTF IS
WRONG WITH YOU?" thread;

2 observed slowdowns vs SM 1.x
Firstly, I have observed that when opening mail-and-news (with email
accounts set to auto check), there is a small freeze where other SM windows
seem to be unresponsive for a few seconds
Secondly, I have observed occasional web page slowdowns that then culminate
in a javascript error referencing storage-mozstorage.js
I have searched bugzilla and didnt find anything. What I want to know is if
these are genuine bugs (and if so, what bug report I should follow or where
in bugzilla I should file one) or if there is some config or system option
or something I can tweak to help with

Lightning SeaMonkey and Thunderbird
I'm getting used to the combination of SeaMonkey and Lightning. The one
issue I still have is opening a calendar tab. The only way I can find to
do it is through the Events and Task menu.
I am advised that Thunderbird 3 reopens mail and calendar tabs
automatically when started.
Is there a setting for SeaMonkey to do this. I can't find it so far.
This would help greatly, but I'd still prefer a button to do it.
How hard is it to create a custom toolbar button?

[SM 2 - OSX Tiger] Sound for new messages doesn't work and wrong counter
Hello,
I always set SM to "chime" when new messages arrive, and it works 90% of
times in SM 1.x; in SM 2.0 it never works.
Odd is I hear the sound when I'm viewing the message source (command-U) and
want copy the text after selecting it all! I hear the chime when I
"command-C" on the keyboard.
BTW, the message counter in the dock is wrong, it keeps showing old unread
messages as if they were new.

Help request for TB3 vs SM2 -- get selected message <<- Another one !!
Another TB3 / SM2 difference:
TB3:
var msgUri =
gMessageDisplay.folderDisplay.selectedMessageUris[0];
SM2:
var msgUri = GetLoadedMessage();
to get the selected message.
SM2 here works more than TB2 and PB ??
.... anymore differences to be aware of ?????
For me SM2 ins'nt code equivalent with TB3 ... or do I miss a paper
about those differences??
Any GENERAL pointers available?

Hello all,
I thogut Lightning could be installed, as I read many people doing so, but
when I try it, I get an error "Lightning 0.9 is not compatible with SM 2.0"!
Do I have to install a nightly build, or modify something of the 0.9 release?
Thank you,
Gabriele

SeaMonkey seems not to post to NNTP using auth
Server: news.eternal-september.org
Fails on port NNTP (119) and NNTPS (563 with SSL) with this message:

And my first test post to this server failed silently as well. WTH?
NOTE: since tested on another server with auth, fails there as well.

form fill like SM 1.x?
Is there a bug open for making form fill work like SM 1.x, where
double-click will fill in the entry if there is only one item in the
drop-down list, instead of displaying the list? If not, any reason not
to open one? It would make form fill much quicker again.
