"View / Message Source: Wrap Long Lines" not working
I'm using TB 2.0.0.23. When I open a message, go to
View / Message Source, and select Wrap Long Lines, there
are lines that don't wrap. In particular, a couple of header
lines never seem to wrap. Here is an example of such line:
Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=neutral (google.com:
222.222.222.222 is neither permitted nor denied by domain of
something@gmail.com) smtp.mail=something@gmail.com
Is this fixed in TB 3? Does anyone know of a workaround? Thx

IMAP: A message locking on server side.
Hi,
I have a bit unusual and hard question.
Is it possible, by any IMAP command, to "lock a message" by certain
client (Thunderbird)?
My problem is following:
If two users have opened shared IMAP folder at the same time and they
both have installed my extension (that creates new messages from
received messages and then deletes original message) then there is race
condition of my extension. It creates two messages from one received.
Is there any way to prevent doing this over IMAP?

Thunderbird shows "application/octet-stream;" attachments inline as base64
Hi,
There seems to be an issue with displaying attachments in the latest TB
builds (Lanikai 3.1b2pre). An attachment with a content type header of
"application/octet-stream;" (see below) is displayed inline as raw
base64 data. Changing the header to "application/x-zip-compressed;", for
example, causes the attachment to display correctly albeit with the
wrong mime type.

Hello.
I remember seeing somewhere someone saying that when I do a lockpref

affected the settings?
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lock_Prefs does seem rather old. Is there more

there's a new serif in town
Hey -
We've recently made a change to the default font choice for Thunderbird
from serif fonts to sans-serif [1]. If you haven't had a chance to test
this I'd encourage you to give the latest nightly (with a new profile) a
try.
Alternately you could continue using your existing profile but edit your
font preferences via Preferences -> Display -> (Fonts) Advanced... In
the Font dialog you'll want to Proportional to Sans-Serif; you need to
do this for both your default language as well as "Other Languages"
which is really UTF-8 in disguise.

Tomorrow, I'll go through various meeting notes I've got and make sure
everything there is captured in the blocking list. After that, I'll try

Currently Thunderbird (and firefox and ...) do not allow any kind of

could be to make installations with possibility for some sort of answer

Any thoughts? Could that be done in some near-future version?

Hi, all,
One Sun internal user reported that he got error messages say "Too many

patch: Message Compose Window

[ATTENTION] Call for non-English Mac testers on Thunderbird
Hi guys,
the Thunderbird developers are thinking about changing the default font

As we have now 50 different locales, it's hard to determine whether

Best build to run to help the project.
At the moment If you want to run a bleeding edge version of Thunderbird,
you need to choose between running 3.2x and 3.1x builds. In fact, it
appears that most people willing to run bleeding edge are now running
3.2x builds.
Whilst our most dedicated testers are running 3.2x builds, the
engineering team is working on bringing features and bug fixes to the
3.1x branch. There's a discrepancy here. This means that the issues that
might exist in 3.1x have a greater chance to be discovered after
releases rather than before. It's easy to fix that, instead of running

Previous versions of Tb allowed one to highlight then drag and drop the

No localized release of Thunderbird 3.1 alpha1
Dear localizers,
I just wanted to inform you that the Thunderbird team will release the
upcoming Thunderbird 3.1 alpha1 (codename Lanikai) milestone only in
English. The reason is mostly that we haven't been able to setup an
application target for TB 3.1 on the l10n dashboard yet. The fact, that
Firefox also doesn't release its first alpha in localized versions also
played into that decision.
Our next scheduled release, Thunderbird 3.1 beta1 is scheduled to be
released roughly one month from now. This release will be a fully
localized release. I hope you will hop on board then.

I just had to uninstall TB3 because it didn't read one of the messages I

So I uninstalled TB3 and re-installed TB2. Startup-times got smaller,
reading messages got fixed, no stupid "smart folders", offline settings
are correct ones etc.
Rant begins.
However apparently there is no support or

least, and may even be, if we're sufficiently lucky, based on the
changeset that we'll end up using for 3.1a1RC1.
This means that it would be great if folks could try using the nightly
builds from tomorrow (Sunday, 1/17) as dogfood.

Account setup security warning
Hi.
The first time you start Thunderbird 3, and the account setup appears,
there is a warning dialog displayed, which effectively tells users that
they should ignore big red scary warnings like the warning Firefox gives
when a website is trying to install malware on your computer. I remember
that this was discussed at the MozCamp in Prague this fall, and it was
said it should be fixed. However I was stunned to discover today that it
had not been fixed in the final release of Thunderbird 3. I went looking
for the bug report, but since I haven't mastered the fine art of

Offtopic: Testset of emails
Hi,
as I am currently developing a web mail interface to access an
IMAP-server, I was wondering how to get a good set of emails to test
support for real life mail variants.
I am looking for various encodings, text- vs. html-messages and any
strange kind of format that is out there.
Does the Thunderbird-project use some kind of test set to harness
Thunderbird?
Would be great to receive some help here.
But please do not send any test-amils to the adress Im am posting this
under.
Thanks,

MozMill update
Hi All,
With the new test policy coming into play, I thought I would just give a
quick status as to the current state of MozMill tests and what's
happening with them.
As many of you know, we have builders set up on our staging boxes that
build Thunderbird and run our Mozmill tests against the build. This is
for all three branches. The builders can be found here:
http://tinderbox.mozilla.org/ThunderbirdTest/
This isn't yet on our production tinderboxes, I have set up a tracking
bug for getting these moved across:

Create a new contact from the mail header and place it directly in given address book (in case one has several)
From the mail header, it is possible to create a new contact entry for
a recipient or sender, but no to place it in a chosen address book,
which makes the feature quite useless.
Am I missing something here?

Wish - New Subproject for Mozilla Thunderbird
Hi,
I think its time to activate a new Subproject for Mozilla
Thunderbird.
The idea of Thunderbird is to offer a perfect mailing program. Times
changes and technology as well. So we need to adapt.
We need to realise a Webmailclient like Google Mail.
Google Mail is bad because of the bad data security. So we need an
alternative that is more secure and offer more function like
Googlemail.
What does the community think about?

Proposal: Upgrade Thunderbird's MozMill version to 1.3 after Thunderbird 3.1a1 is cut/branched
Currently the Thunderbird Mozmill Tests [1] require running on MozMill
1.2 (with jsbridge 2.0 and mozrunner 1.2.1.1).
We'd like to update this to the latest MozMill - 1.3 [2] . However,
because some of the command-line options have changed, we cannot support
running of MozMill 1.2 instead.
I don't see any barriers to doing this upgrade - there aren't any other
compatibility issues with this upgrade.
I'm proposing that we upgrade soon after the Thunderbird 3.1a1 branch is
cut and before we reopen the tree, which will probably be on or before
Tuesday.
When this happens, I

Address Book - display as a tab
hello address book developers
having tested Lightning RC1 beta version I would also prefer to open up
the address book in such a tabbed view.
(a dialog box for opening a single contact item is fine though)
It would be nice to have icons/buttons for address book, calendar and
to-do grouped together (in either position)
It could be handy being able to define certain tabs always to be opened
up at a predefined tab position; like
left2right
prio1 address book
prio2 calendar
prio3 to-dos

How to reclassify Bug 325458?
Greetings.
As noted in the exchange below with Brian Lu, this bug, "Bug 325458 -
Nickname not highest precedence for matching," is being described by a
number of users on bugzilla and in the related "Getsatisfaction.com"
conversations as a major loss of function. As one user noted, "anything
that causes mail to get sent to the wrong user inadvertently is just
about he worst possible problem a mailer can have."
The bug entry is currently classified as an enhancement request. I'm
hoping you can point me to the right process for getting the bug
reclassified as a loss of functionali

Thunderbird 3 - tree column display/hide
Hi,

someone here is able to solve my problem.

Hi,
I'm trying to display and hide a custom column in the threadTree of

builds of TB3. Using the TB3 final, the column is hidden all the time -
regardless of my manipulation of the hidden attribute of the treecol.
Whenever I'm adding some blocking code (alerts) in the line after the
removeAttribute('hidden') (or the setAttribute('hidden', 'false')), my
column is shown - but immediately after t

Archive Add-On
Hello,
I was told by Ludovic H. to come here as I proposed to make an attempt
to extend Archive abilities of TB 3. (bug 533815)
I may ask some very silly questions but my javascript is a bit rusty
(more than 5 years I haven't done some) and never yet coded for XUL
applications.
My first bunch of questions (and I am sure there will be more) is:
How you add a property by an extension
mail.identity or server.default.archive.xxxx
How by extension do you override the functions archiveSelectedMessages
and processNextBatch present in mailWindowOverlay.js (messenger.jar)

Just a note to say that we've now landed all patches that we're
intending for 3.0.1 into comm-1.9.1.
I've just triggered extra nightlies which should be out in 2-3 hours.
We'll be starting builds tomorrow and should have candidates out later

Compose HTML formatted letters occasionally
Dear Thunderbird Developers and Community,
I've been using Thunderbird for about five years. Lately I discovered
that I don't need to send my messages in both HTML and Rich Text
format, because I don't use advanced formattings in my mails that
would require Rich Text/HTML format. Moreover this keeps a lot of
internet traffic and server performance from wasting. So I went Tools -
> Account Settings -> (my default email address) -> Composition &
Addressing and deselected "Compose messages in HTML format". I was
doing great for months since I first needed to send a formatted
letter. I

Support for Windows 7 users
I noticed that the amount of Thunderbird questions has increased in the

be that users got a new computer for Christmas, and this year computers
come with Windows 7, which is the first version of Windows without a

It seems worth having something specific for those new Windows 7 users
coming from Windows XP with Outlook Express or Vista with Windows Mail,
with relation to both support and marketing. How do they best migrate

Where's the Bleeding Edge now: Trunk or Branch?
I'm a bit unsure as to where the *newest features* in Thunderbird are
now landing - trunk[1] or branch[2].
In the many months leading up to Thunderbird 3, the patches were all
landing on the 3.0 (aka Gecko 1.8.x) branch. In the past, patches would
land on the trunk and then a branch was branched relatively shortly
before the release in order to test the code. Now I'm unsure.
There was a thread mentioning a blog about this, and also some
philosophical discussion in some thread about whether to develop on the
trunk or on a branch, but I don't remember them mentioning a clear

Packaging extensions built together with TB (DOMI, Lightning)
Is it intentional that DOMI, Lightning and related extensions aren't
packaged when building TB (comm-central with mozilla-1.9.2) with

This was due to a packaging error. This is now fixed and the nightly

netbook issues
There is a new meta Bug 533875 (alias tb-netbooks) Improve netbooks
experience. Please make netbook and *similar* device size bugs block
533875 or tb-netbooks. This will help focus on appropriate issues for
making the experience better.

draft Thunderbird 3.1 schedule
[Note that replies are being directed to the dev-apps-thunderbird list]
I've drafted a schedule for Thunderbird 3.1:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Thunderbird3.1
Some things to note:
* String and features freezes for this release are targeted at the end
of beta 1. If anyone expects to land a feature with > 20 or so strings,
please contact me (dmose) ASAP so that I can coordinate with
localization teams sooner rather than later.
* I've switched from the M1/M2-style milestone naming previously
proposed back to the alpha/beta style naming as a result of previous

Thunderbird global search trunk fix landed for query words ending in non-ASCII characters (CJK seems unaffected)
There was a bug in Thunderbird's fulltext search tokenizer that would
cause queries where the last character is not a-z (and not CJK) to fail
under most circumstances.
This has been been landed on Thunderbird trunk and will hopefully land
on the Thunderbird 3.0.x branch shortly and in time for 3.0.1

Is there a hidden setting that switch the default sort order of

Need a work-around for "insecure updates"
A friend of mind says that when he tries to install the Buttons!
extension, it is rejected with a message that "Buttons will not be
installed because it does not provide secure updates".
He's been told that "the security functions of the Gecko backend code
expect the extensions to
be either Digitally Signed or served by a secure server using HTTPS
protocols."
Is there a way around this?
Thanks.

MDC Version Templates
We talked about the Mozilla Developer Center version templates during
the status meeting this morning. As it turns out, the existing templates

So, here's a cheat sheet:

introduced in Thunderbird N" (yellow background bar)
- {{template.Tb_minversion_section(N)}} = "Introduced in Thunderbird N"
(light yellow background bar)
- {{template.tb_minversion_inline(N)}} = "New in Thunderbird N" (yellow
