Please help a noobie with XULRunner & Moz Build Sys

Just joined the list, hi everyone! I'm very interested by XULRunner to build a cross platform app, but I'm just beginning with it, so sorry in advance if I ask dumb questions. I've done all the basic tutorials like https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Getting_started_with_XULRunner and played with the interface components and API using xulrunner-bin. I'm really interested in packaging the app as a distributable exe/app, so - after struggling to find anything - I checked out tuts like https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Creating_XULRunner_Apps_with_the_Mozilla_Build_System and I'm able

Sorry for the short notice. The talos changes in this downtime are tracked in: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=550066 (downtime, 8-11am PST Friday March 5th 2010) All tree using talos for performance testing will be closed during the downtime. As per usual, I will make every effort to re-open the trees earlier if the talos boxes are ready to go. If there is any reason not to go ahead with this downtime as planned please contact me as soon as possible. Thanks, alice.

Broken FF 3.6b4 build

Hi, today, i checked out FF source from: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6b4.source.tar.bz2 and attempted to build. The build failed while compiling nsDocument.cpp because it couldn't find include file 'nsMediaDecoder.h'. I then added include path '/content/media' to make file /content/base/Makefile and everything worked. I would like to know who maintains/verifies FF lastest beta releases. It would be nice if we can fix it in the repo. thanks, Toan

Build Dependencies vs. Runtime Dependencies?

Hi all, I am not an expert at building software packages. I hope that someone can clarify this for me. is there a difference (or such a thing) between a build dependency and a package runtime dependency? Well, i was upgrading FF from version 3.5.5 to 3.6b4 and i noticed that it complained that I did not have package 'libnotify >= 0.4'. I looked in my distro for that package and i noticed that 'libnotify' is a development library. Therefore, i am curious that, do i only need 'libnotify' to build FF? or do i need it to run FF as well? that is really what i do not understand

I think I am missing something pretty important about hg queues. This is the bit that surprises me: hg status These show you only uncommitted editswork that's neither committed nor in an MQ patch. After a qrefresh, they'll both be empty. Based on this description: hg qrefresh Update the current patch to include your latest uncommitted changes I guessed that the file system is examined and any diffs from the repo are stored in the patch at the top of the queue. But something else mysterious also happens because after a qrefresh the hg status will be empty? Wh

Determining the null distribution of talos numbers

Some time ago I filed a bug asking for more structure in the way talos is run on the try tree, so that the numeric results would have more statistical power to them, and one could actually draw conclusions about the performance impact of a patch. The problem as is, after all, is that it *appears* there is so much variation due to chanc

Whitespace before directives in configure files

It's taken me quite some effort to get the mozilla package to compile. It runs now, after considerable manual changes. I'm using SUSE 11.1 64- bit. It turns out that 'make' (or gcc) only works when compiler directives such as '#include <sys/types.h>' start in the first column of the line. If there's any whitespace in front, the directive is ignored, and compilation fails. There are many lines in the files for which this is the case. The two configure files are very long (over 20,000 lines), and comments also start with a hash #, so I need to manually go through the files to fix t

Using nsIFrame in XULRunner based application

hi, [1] I have my application based on the McCoy [https:// developer.mozilla.org/en/ Creating_XULRunner_Apps_with_the_Mozilla_Build_System]. [2] Application does some low level frame [nsIFrame] analysis. [3] The moment I include nsIFrame.h I am required to build the component with xpcom_core.lib and for some reason my component dll is not getting loaded when I start my application. Any help on how can I assess nsIFrame from outside would be great help. Thanks harvinder

hg qpush rejects: the 'usual" process

I issue hg qpush -v and I got rejects. In SVN I would use a merge editor to deal with conflicts. I guess that rejects and conflicts are similar, but I don't have a merge editor that understands hg queues. In looking for info I came upon this: http://mercurial.selenic.com/wiki/MqMergePatches Manual resolution of conflicts using .rej files is much less convenient than the usual Mercurial merge process I'm up for more convenient, but what is "the usual Mercurial merge process"? jjb

Default --with-window-version changed on mozilla-central, mozilla-1.9.2

Hi Everyone, As part of https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=505504 we've changed the default targeted Windows version to Windows 7 on mozilla-central and mozilla-1.9.2. TraceMonkey, Electrolysis, and Places branches will have this change next time they sync up, too. If you suddenly find that you can't build you'll need to do one of two things: * Install the Windows 7 SDK, available here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C17BA869-9671-4330-A63E-1FD44E0E2505&displaylang=en * Add 'ac_add_options --with-window-version=600' to revert back to prev

According to development schedule on this website https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Namoroka, the Beta 1 was out early Sept. 2009 and Beta 2 will be out around this time. Does anyone know if Beta 1 was out on schedule and where I can download the Beta 1 code? I have looked ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/namoroka/, only Alpha 1 is available. Firefox 2.x/3.x on SLES8

I have a need to get Firefox working on a SLES 8 system. The Firefox 2.x/3.x linux tarballs will not work on SLES 8 because the version of glibc is too old. SLES 8 has glibc 2.2. Firefox needs glibc 2.3. Since Firefox won't work out of the box, I was figured I might have have to compile from source code. Since Firefox 2 is no longer being supported, so I just try to build Firefox 3.0/3.5 from source code or attempt Firefox 2? I've looked at the various build and linux prerequisites. Most of the packages FIrefox requests to build aren't available for SLES 8. Some of the packages

I am attempting to compile and build a completely or mostly static version of firefox for research purposes. However, I am having some difficulty in accomplishing this even after doing the usual exhautive google search. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to build firefox statically It would be appreciated. Additionally, if there is anyone who could point me to someone who might know that would also help. Thanks.

Upcoming changes to unittests

Since May [1], we've been running our unittest suite twice for each checkin: once for the current reference counting build + test job, and once for the packaged unittests. Our end goal is to run unittests on our optimized and debug builds. We would stop doing our current reference counting builds, since the debug builds also have reference counting enabled. To get there requires a few intermediate steps: * Turn off tests for the current build+tests unittest job. We're hoping to do this soon. The tests run on the packaged builds would still be active at this point (first

Problems with MozillaBuild - No display output on the shell

Hi! After upgrading to the latest MozillaBuild release (IIRC 1.4) I have the following problem: After I start up the msys environment via start-l10n.bat I get a shell window, but whatever I type in there, I will only get output on the shell, when I get an error. Example: - ls-l should show me the directory content, but it doesn't. - hg commit --help should show me the command options for the hg commit command, but it doesn't What am I doing wrong here? It seems the hidden file .mozconfig.mk is missing from the tarball "thunderbird-2.0.0.23-source.tar.bz2" I extracted it using Ark on OpenSUSE 11 I also tried comm-central. It gives a very different development environment (why?), but unfortunately even the configure script is missing. How do I get to these (or any) missing files and are there any development environments that are actually working? Thanks and regards, Andy
