compiling Firefox mobile with ARM tool chains.
hi,
will it be possible to build the Firefox mobile sources using any of the
ARM's compiler tool sets like ADS 1.2, RVDS 2.x, 3.x, 4.x? this is required,
as I want to port Firefox mobile on our native proprietary platform. please
help.

Install on Window Mobile HTC Pure froze and blocking HTC Touchpro 3D App
I tried installing the latest Alpha version (4) of Fennec on an AT&T
HTC Pure today. The HTC Pure uses Windows Mobile 6.5.1 and has ~234MB
of memory with 110MB free on my device. The installation was
successful.
When I tried to open the app. the device froze and I had to remove the
battery to restart the phone. When restarting the phone Touchpro
repeatedly failed to load and initialize with error messages stating
that the following files couldn't open: manila.exe, services.exe and
opera.exe.
Additionally, several applications that I had added wouldn't open

Fennec causes havoc with Touch Pro 2 G-Sensor
Upon installing Fennec on HTC Touch Pro2, all worked fantastic at
first. Later I noticed that the TP2's G-Sensor was going crazy. The
G-Sensor flips the screen from vertical to horizontal. With Fennec
installed, when you turn the TP2 horizontally, the screen rapidly
keeps flipping from horizontal to vertical and back again and won't
stop. Uninstall Fennec and the G-Sensor screen flipping again works
properly. I think it's the Fennec quick start that constantly runs in
the background. If the quick start "feature" could be disabled, I
think everything would work fine.

Re: Phennec and Phishing
I suspect stronger heuristic approaches paired on the type of action a user
is performing (ie: entering information via web form on a site to which
they've never previously navigated) would yeild better results.
I also suspect that these are already conversations someone in the mobile
group are having (about how-if-at-all to deal with the DB, or if another
solution is neded).
You're right though - we should be having this conversation with the
Chromium and SafeBrowsing teams to see if we can work together for a better
solution for mobile.

MicroB has no protection.
(I think the better question is what the Android Browser on the NexusOne
does, though, since that's the one being built to integrate with Google
services.)
The DB size is fairly constant (check your profile directory) at about 25MB
or so, last I looked. The issue is that it turns over as often as once a
day, entirely. That's a lot of data transfer even with the most liberal
contracts.
Google has entirely disabled the "track me" mechanism from the SafeBrowsing
service due to its lack of popularity. Chromium has moved to a locally
stored DB as wel

Phennec and Phishing
I'm told that Fennec, on sites, shows the favicon and page title instead
of the URL.
http://designnewsonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/fennec.png
If that's true, how do you guard against phishing? Both the page title
and favicon are under the control of the site. So in the Fennec UI,
there would be no difference between:
http://www.gmail.com/, page title "Gmail", gmail favicon
http://www.somewhere-else.com/, page title "Gmail", gmail favicon
Is this right?

Building for Maemo -- Mozconfig change.
I cleaned up some of the defines that Mozilla uses when building Maemo
(see bug 543976). If you are building for Maemo, you must change your
mozconfig starting last night. Please add this line to your
mozconfig:
ac_add_options --with-maemo-version=5
Release engineering has already updated their builders (545084).
Thanks Aki!
If you are writing code and need it to be specific to maemo, you can
use the new #define:
MOZ_PLATFORM_MAEMO
It is set to 5 for anything that is "Hildon" based. So if you are
running the diablo or chinook sdk, the MOZ_PLATFORM_MAEMO should be 5.

Firefox for Windows Mobile is dead ?
I'm seeing releng has fully removed the building of Wince from the build

but has not left a single one with it apparently. Not just disabled, but
removed the code from the scripts. (bug 543067)
Is Firefox for Windows Mobile dead and buried ? Without actually

Easy way to get Fennec on the iPhone
If Apple isn't gonna let you put it on the App Store, then just make a
Cydia (http://cydia.saurik.com/) repository with an iPhone version of
Fennec on it! There, you aren't limited by the App Store rules and
regulations, and it's not *technically* illegal, because Jailbroken
iPhones aren't even illegal in the first place, just warranty voided.

Cool. Installed to my new netbook.
So I read somewhere online that this "Fennec" web browser was also
good for netbook use, recognizing that sometimes the smaller screen is
a pain, because you constantly have to rely on the scrollbars to see
the whole page. Howver, with this browser, it opens up the whole
screen, and really allows you to see the "big picture" better. Thanks
Fennec.

Can't login to weave on n810 maemo
Hi,
On weave plugin Add-ons pages 'Connect' and 'Sync Now' buttons do
nothing when clicked.
I have installed fennec version 1.0b5 and weave version 0.8.
The buttons go dark grey to show they have been clicked but nothing
else happens.
I checked my username and password on another computer to ensure they
were correct.

Watching flash video
I'm thinking of getting a windows mobile phone but one thing I want is
to play flash video so I though I'd see how fennec does, now I don't
know if its a bug as such but when I open fennec and go to
crunchyroll.com to watch a video, if I'm watching full screen its fine
no lag or anything but if its running with the video on the webpage
its very stuttery the audio is fine but its like the video skips a
fair few frames, I don't know if its a bug or lack optimization but I
thought I'd let you know.

Add-on Options
The override option described at:
http://starkravingfinkle.org/blog/2009/09/fennec-handling-add-on-options/
.... is quite straightforward.
However, what if there is no options url to override? So, the mobile
add-on is sharing the same code-base as the desktop add-on, and the
latter has no options, i.e. no em:optionsUrl.
Know any good hacks to keep the button disabled on desktop while
enabling it on mobile?

Put more files of fennec into /opt to make it installable on N900
Hi,
I am one of the lucky guys who are getting a pre-released N900. I really do like the concept of fennec and was using this browser on my old n800 too.
Now I really would love to use fennec on the n900. But I simply can't install it. If I try to do this the disk space is getting full.
There is very little empty space in the root partition. That's why
applications made for maemo should put as much content as possible to the /opt/ dirctory. Here are reasons and backgrounds:

Hey,

Similar to Firefox for desktop, we'll need platform and locale detection

Changes to the Maemo nightly builds (multi-locale)
Hello all,
As of today we are going to be generating with the nightly Maemo build
the multi-locale version of it.
You will currently see the nightly logs *RED* but if you look closely
you will notice that one of the locales has to come up to date before
the build can go green. The multi-locale should still be usable, The
en-US build is independent from the multi-locale even though it is
created in the same build machine.
These are the multi-locale's deb files:

Dear All,
I was interested in getting involved with Fennec development on Windows

I'm thinking of maybe changing my device to Xperia X1.
Does Fennec run well on the Xperia?
If so then I might consider strongly on changing my device.

FYI: I have solved the problem that xulrunner built on custom CE6 SDK with jemalloc cannot work.
Hi,
It turned out that some APIs in CE6 SDK called _msize (which is
associated with malloc/free). So, it's fairly easy to solve this problem:
1. export _msize from mozce_shunt just like malloc/free
2. add dummy APIs (exported api that calls malloc/free/_msize) to all
corrupted DLLs/EXEs
3. to make sure that no malloc/free/_msize/realloc imported from DLL, you
can use a perl script to analyze the .map files
With jemalloc enabled, I can load desktop versions of google maps and
google mail on my CE6 device now.

Where to upload multi-locale build
Hi guys,
I would like to know where do we want to upload the multi-locale build.
Currently, uploading the multi-locale after the single-locale build
overwrites the single-locale since they share the same name.
I see two ways:
- Option A. There is a naming change.
- Option B. We upload somewhere else (the fennec multi-locale tar ball
would still have "en-US" in the filename)
Another question I have is if there is any good reason that we upload
to firefox/nightly rather than mobile/nightly (aside that there is
some work to be done to upload somewhere else).
Cheers,

A bug in the toolpath of wince build?
Hi,
I cannot build activex support on a certain CE6 sdk, caused by sal.h
that comes with the SDK. After days of hacking, I found the root of the
problem. The toolpath put SDK_INC before WCE_INC, which is wrong. I've
tested in VS2008SP1 projects, and VS always put WCE_INC before SDK_INC.
WCE_INC contains latest headers and updated C++ libraries, and some of them
are mandatory for altmfc. After I swapped them, the errors are gone, and
there are much less warnings.
I'm not sure if this is a real bug, or workaround for some other
issues.

Problems of building fennec from source code
Hi,
I'm trying to build fennec from source code. I followed
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Build/Fennec
But the build was not successful. There were several undefined errors.
I think maybe it's because it's in active development. So I have to
choose a stable source code base to build, like the one for 1.0b4.
Which branch or tag should I use?

--enable-jemalloc and VS2008SP1
Hi,
According to
https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Developer_Guide/Build_Instructions/Windows_Prerequisites
Projects that are built on Gecko 1.9.0 (such as Firefox 3.0) require that
you use Visual C++ 7.1 (Visual Studio 2003), Visual C++ 8 (Visual Studio
2005) or Visual C++ 9 (Visual Studio 2008). If you wish to enable jemalloc
you must be using Visual Studio 2005 SP1 (service pack 1), or Visual Studio

But I found --enable-jemalloc in a mozconfig for VS2008SP1 at:

I installed Fennec Alpha 3 on my HTC Touch HD. It's underwhelming.
The left and right scroll is slow and draggy. The soft keyboard gets

crappy, even for an alpha release.

Capping the Fennec Test Matrix
We currently have two ways of thinking about mobile versions of Firefox.
One is a method centered around consideration of the code and the
other is centered around the behavior of the product on the target
device. This is a typical difference of perspective between development
and testing, respectively.
Because testing is focused on the different behaviors of the system,
each OS plus hardware becomes a different operating environment. For a
very simple instance of this compare the input methods of the Omnia
versus the Omnia 2 device. Then compare those input methods with t

Optimizing for "idle" CPU use to preserve battery life
Hi, my current WM machine has only 64 Mb of RAM so I can't test Fennec

One very annoying with Iris Browser is that when I'm not actively

This is a big problem on a WM machine.
Whilst at any given time, it seems to be a small CPU usage, over a whole

I know that on a desktop machine gecko based browsers are also using

I mostly use Wikipeda on my handheld to gather further information
