Language routing for browser choice

Hi, These are the languages which we consider have large user bases or are official languages in the browserchoice screen area. The first fix we will implement is to route users who have this as a preference in their user agent to the correct page. We will go in 2 phases, next week and the week after. We do this because we know that Catalan is the biggest of these locales and can be ready by the start of next week. Of the rest, where we do not have browserchoice.mozilla.com in that locale, we will have a fallback until we do have it in that locale. Mapping is below:

The Paradox of Choice

Hi everyone, I wanted to quickly illuminate what one might call the flip side of the "open to choice" campaign, which is summarized by this Publishers Weekly review of Barry Schwartz's "The Paradox of Choice" (2004) [1]: Like Thoreau and the band Devo, psychology professor Schwartz provides ample evidence that we are faced with far too many choices on a daily basis, providing an illusion of a multitude of options when few honestly different ones actually exist. The conclusions Schwartz draws will be familiar to anyone who has flipped through 900 eerily similar ch

Make it simple Guys

Hey Guys! We play with the BIG guys. And one point to be noted: Big guys don't think 'simple'. Common ppl don't think Complex or security oriented. Wat we do is trying to market Firefox as a giant Robot working on a core Rocket science. All ppl want is a browser that makes their browsing simple, easy to use, and lite. On the other hand, we know we r the powerful. We know we have something we could call 'The Browser'. So Lets have a second dimension of marketing. 'Browsing made Simple' 'Browsing is fun with Firefox' This kind of marketing would catch the common man. Al

Hypothesis on Chrome's recent market share boost

I've a hypothesis to explain Chrome's recent and sudden surge of usage share the last couple months. Let me first say that almost every time I ever ask what web browser someone uses, the answer I get is Google. After I explain that Google is a search engine, not a web browser they usually tell me that they have no idea. I later find out that they are either using Internet Explorer or Firefox. Enter Microsoft's new browser ballot into the equation. Instead of just saying "Chrome," Google's web browser says "Google" and then says "chrome" in smaller letter. People are asked what

The project has common root with Mozilla and since it is community-based websites directory it serve similar role to Mozilla mission. 3.6: Calling for Marketing Ideas

Hi all: Per Gorjan's note we discussed on the call how we're looking for a lightweight (namely, wouldn't take a lot of web development, financial or l10n resources) grassroots campaign for 3.6. Below, I've outlined an example campaign from 3.5 for fodder + the themes and current plans for 3.6. Let's discuss some possible campaigns -- either global like Shiretoko Shock or regional :) Again, we should have an RC shortly and 3.6 should be coming out in Q1. I realize it makes it a bit hard to plan -- it's best to plan for this happening earlier in the quarter vs. later. Fi

Awesome Bar vs Smart Location Bar

As I understand it, "Awesome Bar" is a nickname used by developers for the location bar autocomplete feature. When asked what the official name of the feature (for end-users) was, we were told "Smart Location Bar". See <http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.apps.firefox/browse_frm/thread/3393ea5f2e38776d>. That is the term we use in the support KB <http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Smart+Location+Bar>. Now, I see on <http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/features/>, the term being used is "Awesome Bar". Who's lead do I follow here?

Another interesting fact is that Hotmail has a very strong presence as emai= l provider: around 90-95% from people who have answered the surveys (about 60= 0 people). Your Brand Driver

The following strange guy is selling promotion spots on his own motor, and is located in Italy. Since the prices are extremly low (few euros for January), I think it might be funny to get him promote Firefox.
