New tab opening behaviour
In the past, when I opened new tabs they would open at the end (to the
right) of the tabs that are already open (which is how I want it).
Now, new tabs open right next to the tab from which I open a new tab
(which isn't what I want).
I'm not sure how/when the behaviour changed, perhaps after the upgrade
to 3.6, but I can't be sure.
In any case, how can I restore the previous behaviour?

Listening to mp3 files
I have files with mp3 extensions associated with Winamp player. When
using Windows Explorer, if I double-click on an mp3 file, Winamp opens
and the file plays or enters the queue.
But if I click on a link in FF to an mp3 file, the file plays okay, but
with Quicktime. If I go to Tools/Options/Applications, the Content Type
column doesn't show the mp3 extension, and I don't see a way of adding
anything to the Content Type and Action columns.
How can I make FF use Winamp as the player for mp3 files?
Thanks,

I've been tinkering with Ubuntu 9.10 these past few days on a dual-boot

Ajax call returns empty text
I have struggled for a couple of days, and still don't get anywhere.
I have an Ajax call and it keeps return nothing versus some text when

I debug the server and it did return some text. The browser just

The configuration is: JSP code is in a Weblogic server in another

The Ajax call URL is on the same Weblogic server/port as the JS, so
no security problem should arise here (I did trigger the Ajax call

Tabs and windows, windows and tabs
What I think (new whine at the end):
I don't have a problem with calling them windows, but they look like

Vertical, Blinking Rule
This is pretty low on the list, and I'm not sure when it started
(relative to updates), but I frequently get a blinking vertical rule
usually toward the left side, but not always, from top to bottom,

It always always clears (usually disappears completely, sometimes
becomes a non-blinking rule) when I reload the page.
Facebook does it pretty regularly.
I have no clue as to what causes it.
As I say, I don't remember it being an issue prior to the upgrades so it
is possible that it was there but I was not so chaffed and didn't notice it.

to sell so quickly so near your appraised value.
At the same time, I know you have mixed feelings about leaving what was
your dream house. You have many great memories in Rome, along with a
few disappointments. I hope in the overall, you are happy to be out from
under the pressures of selling and all that goes with it.

I think this is an omen that you are beginning a long winning streak!

Removing an ondblclick event with Javascript
I am trying to remove an ondblclick event with Javascript:
body = document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0];
if (body.attributes['ondblclick']) {
body.removeAttribute('ondblclick');
}
The above works well in IE8, Opera, Chrome, and Safari, but fails in
Firefox. Using the Firefox addon DOM Inspector I can see the ondblclick
attribute before the code executes and it appears to be gone after the
code executes -- but if I double-click after removal, the ondblclick
event still fires.
Anyone have an idea on how to remove an ondblclick event in Firefox?

Memory usage
FF 3.5.8
FF generally loads asking for about 71K of memory. After
loading and closing pages for several minutes, the footprint
is anywhere from two to four times larger.
Tools > Clear Recent History , Clear Everything, with
everything checked except Cookies and Site Preferences does
not reduce the footprint. Closing FF and reloading returns
the footprint to 71K or so. I also use Shift-Reload and
Control-Reload.
Is there a setting that would allow flushing the cache to
reduce the footprint?

Some Ominous Prognostications from Ars Technia

First, I've been a Mozilla/Firefox fan for a very long time and continue

In reading the article, my first thought was to write it off as either

However, after further review, I'm not so sure this is the case

I managed to tweak the handlers enough to make the links within TB work.

Lightweight Screen Scraping AddOns for Firefox

I played with some perl and ruby modules but that seems a lot of

About:config wudn't nullyfy the warranty anymore :-)
Previously (5.5 it was i think) when i went to About:config, I was
getting a message that going further will nullyfy the warranty, or
something of that effect.
That message didn't appear when I accessed about:config today for the
first time in 3.6
:-) Have the developers stopped giving fun messages, or if it never
was a fun message, seems developers have gained confidence.
The purpose of posting this is to share the differences in this
version so that anyone who is used to seeing some different thing in
previous version doesn't get bowled.
Thanks.

I would like to have a plugin or button to check for updates as

Any Ideas or suggestions?

new tab now opening next to current tab
till ff3.5.5, when I clicked on a link on a page to open in a new tab,
the tab used to open at the end of all tabs.
I upgraded to 3.6 yesterday, and my new tabs are now opening right
next to the current tab.
I havent chagned any setting. I checked option and couldn't locate if
there is any option to open new tabs at the end.
There was an extention for tab manipulation, but I hadn't installed
that as I was happy with default tab manipulation of ff. Now why did
it change this behavior by itself and how can I get new tabs open at
the end without needing any add on.
Thanks.

Firefox and Gmail themes
When I started using Gmail in Firefox, I tried a couple themes out, but
it was always difficult to see text properly. I had to settle for using
a boring gray and black theme which is basically the standard theme with

the themes the text was unreadable.
Using Gmail in Chrome, I have found that any of the themes that looked
awful in FF look fine in Chrome. So for readabilities sake, I use
Chrome for Gmail.

Why can misbehaving plugins derail firefox?
I've had a couple of bad experiences with plugins that go into resource
hogging loops etc. that just freeze the Firefox UI. I am curious why there
isn't a better way out where FF could police the plugins and either kill
them or else offer the user a hot-key / button that could kill a
unresponsive plugin anytime. After all, aren't plugins in some way getting
their resources from the FF-mozilla-engine?

FF 3.6 misdiagnoses connection failure
I just tried to connect to a Web site which happened to be down and FF
3.6 reported "The connection was reset / The connection to the server
was reset while the page was loading."
Watching the connect attempt in TCPView, all I saw was a number of cases
where it was in SYN_SENT state.
Watching it in Wireshark, it was pretty clear that the connect attempt
simply timed out.
Is there a reason that FF reports the failure the way it does?

trouble downloading pdf
Seem to be having trouble downloading some pdf's. For example when I
visit this website :
http://www.sharkbite.com/_images/pdfs/SB_Install_Inst_Eng.pdf and hit
the link to download it, all I get is a blank page with "done" in the
lower left corner. Just won't download. I'm using the latest version
of FF 3.6. I also notice that if I use google to search, and one of
the sites that it comes up has a link to a pdf and also a "quick view"
option, clicking the quick view brings up the pdf, but using the regular
link brings up only the blank page.
Any suggestions appreciated.

restore tabs when re-opening doesn't work
If I close FF with multiple tabs open, an alert window asks me if I just
want to quit or to quit and save the open tabs for next time.
It doesn't matter what I click, FF opens with my homepage next time
forgetting the previous tabs.
I don't save my history or cache and have FF set to remember virtually
nothing. Does this render the alert box on close-down irrelevant? I'm
not bothered - it just "looks" bad when Ff alerts offer to do something
and then don't do it. It would make more sense if ticking the boxes for
no history to be saved, also cancelled the close-down alert box an

3.6 RC1 faster!
FF 3.6 RC1 running on a Windows 7 PC is noticeably faster especially loading
pages with heavy flash content and css elements. (Like www.msnbc.com)
Good!

Password question for FF 2.0.0.20
After registering with my insurance company's Website the PW doesn't
stick, Is there some way I can force FF to remember it?
Also confusing is that when I enter the first letter of my User ID by
hand FF will offer several options. Where are they coming from?
Thanks.

Text Color In RoboForm Toolbar
I've been playing with 3.6's personas feature and the first one I tried is
basically black with an abstract pattern on the right. FF is smart enough
to change its text color to white to cope with it so its text is quite
readable. RoboForm is not smart about this at all and on top of that
doesn't offer a setting to change the text color so the black-on-black is
damned difficult to read.
I wrote to RoboForm's "support" and the answer I got back seemed
astoundingly dim. Basically it said that RoboForm doesn't do that (yes,
that is the reason I was writing) and that "Option is loc

Printing passwords
I have an HTML script that would print out all stored passwords.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with v3.5.7.
Would there be an updated script that would work available?

3.0 vs 3.5 css
I've got a strange problem. One of the sites (http://
www.northelba.org) I've been working on (which has driven me
completely and utterly mad with IE styling issues) now displays
improperly in Firefox 3.0, but not in Firefox 3.5. In particular, the
menu along the top is floating too far to the left in 3.0. Is there
any way I can fix this without writing yet another conditional
stylesheet reliant on people not tampering with their useragents? The
code I am using to position the menu is:
#menu {
margin-left:145px;
margin-top:11px;
margin-bottom: -10px;
}

Form Management / Fill
Does anyone have experience with the different Form Managers / Fillers
Add-Ons that are out there?
I am one of the folks that migrated to FF and TB because SM2 did away
with the Form Manager SM1 used; figuring that there was no sense to stay
with SM any longer.
Is there an Add-On that is darn, close to being similar to SM's Old Form
Manager? I currently, use Form History; it has in the past, removed some
of the Form data that was in there at 1 time. 'Time & Usage Criteria'
has not had either box checked; I did check them once, entered 999,999
into the 'Days' and 0 into the 'Tim

I have a suggestion for all those having problems with FF 3.5.7 - switch
to 3.6 RC1. Don't hear anyone complaining about it. If your issues
continue, it may have nothing to do with the version you are using.
