Firefox keeps running in the background after I quit
Hi there:
I found something strange with Firefox. I have been using Firefox from
its early versions many years ago (I am a fan of it), nowdays I am
using the latest version for Windows Vista (3.5.7).
The problem: When I quit Firefox everything seems right, but then when
I try to clean all my cache using CCleaner I receive the message that
I must close Firefox first to clean my cache (I have already closed
Firefox). I launch Windows Task Manager and although Firefox doesn't
show in "Applications" lo and behold it shows Firefox in "processes".
After I end Firefox from Task Manager I can

Bookmarks at Windows' Menu
Hi,
O have a lot of old people that i learn how ti use a cimputer,
internet... things like that.
Most of them began using the IE but i offered the Mozilla as an option
and they loved it, but all of them have the same problem: they like to
let the bookmarks in the Start menu. They say:
"Why must I call the browser when i want to enter THAT page?"
I LOL but I always have to go to their houses and do:
1) Firefox: Export the bookmaks as html
2) IE: Clear all the bookmarks (avoid redundances and replaces they
did)
3) IE: Import the bookmarks from that HTML
Is there a way to make

Hello mozzila team.
i was using namoroka 3.6 on windows 7 ultimate x64 and it keeps

Couple of bugs/complaints
I sure do appreciate Firefox, especially how much faster it has been
since 3 and 3.5. But I have a bug or complaint to file. It has
continued for a long time so I don't know if anyone's working on it.
I don't know if this is exactly a Mozilla problem or an Adobe problem
-- possibly one of each. When Adobe Reader is running inside a
Firefox tab the following happens.
When you leave the tab (focus another tab or another window in
Windows.. this was true on Vista and is still true in Win7) and then
return to it, if you were viewing a PDF slideshow, you should expect

cursor location for new tabs/windows
Hi, I have a suggestion for a future release of Firefox. Currently, if
you open a new tab or window, the cursor is placed in the Address
field. This is fine most of the time, but there is an exception. I
believe that the script that changes the focus to the Address field
should NOT run if the current focus for the tab/window is in the
Search field. My primary behavior as a user of tabs is to open a new
tab then immediately click into the Search box to begin typing my
search criteria. Because Firefox wants to change the focus back to the
Address field, it will often jump out of the Sear

Firefox on Web Books
I have recently migrated from my trusty laptop to a web book (on the
grounds of portability and battery life).
Previously, I am a happy and extensive user of Forefox as my default

In the past month of using the web book - an Acer Aspire One (WinXP) -
I have experienced the following problems with Firefox 3.5 and

1) They do not like the resolution of the screen
2) They take an age to open 1-2 minutes
3) There is frequent non-response and crashing - every 10 pages (or
less)
In comparison Google Chrome starts up very quickly 15 seconds; I have

optional Session Restore
Apart from blank page, home page and previous session, would be nice
to have one more option in 'When Firefox starts" - list of tabs with
possibility to mark/unmark what tabs to be restored.
Currently, I am using start from home page called
'about:sessionrestore', but it does not work always, quite often
Firefox does restore previous session in full, which takes a lot of
time - normally I have dozen of absolutely unnecessary temporary tabs.
Better to be able to kill them before session restore.

Open New Window from Current Address bar Enhancement Request
One feature I would really like to see in the browser is the ability
to click on the current webpage address (e.g. right click either on

paste the current page into a new window and then back up to the one I
was at previously. This seems like such a simple enhancement -- if I

Add a menu item to the tab (right click) menu.

Not sure if there is a way to do this right now, but it would be more

comment on meeting notes
I noticed the first thing in the meeting notes is that CSAT is down. However
I looked at the weekly metrics and it doesn't look like it's down, rather it
looks like the previous week's CSAT was a blip. Taking the week of 5/18/2009
out of the equation, the numbers look the same. Except of course for the
forums, which looks up!
Was this discussed in the meeting?

or could get more right. I think there are still some important ways SUMO
could improve how it communicates with and, (hopefully) therefore, grows the
community and participation.

We moved (and I pushed for this) contributor discussion to the Contributor

lessons from wordpress.tv
Hello marketing and support planning teams,
I'm mitcho, a Labs researcher in Tokyo working on Ubiquity. This past
Sunday I went to WordCamp Tokyo and was blown away by a presentation
by Michael Pick of Automattic (makers of WordPress) on wordpress.tv,
an aggregator of WordPress-related videos. There are many 2-5 minute
support-related screencasts like "how to do ___ on my blog" and also
longer demos and talks. Many of the videos are produced by Automattic
themselves (mostly by Michael Pick himself, identifiable by his
British accent) but they also aggregate user-generated videos ther

Map of SUMO Community
I just created a SUMO community map and would love for everyone that is
part of our community (whether it's by helping out in the forum, live
chat, knowledge base, irc, newsgroups, hacking on the code, localizing)
to be added to the map:

We've been talking about this for some time but I never realized how

Hey,
I've been busy with Firefox stuff for a while so I haven't been
keeping up, but was checking in on the stats today (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=piA-a-dXCL2p7vB5pTu0HKA&hl=en

the forums since July. What's going on there? We're getting two
thousand new threads a week, we really should have some stats on
answered/resolved/presumed resolved...
I thought there were changes pending to make it easier to get forum
threads marked as read? Did those not happen, or do we need to change

The product is awesome but I'd like to contribute with a few points.
when I'm browsing I mainly use one instance of Firefox for main topic
and as many Tabs as necessary on each instance.
some times the list of tabs gets pretty big and when I finish my work
I "need" to keep that arrangement.
I can do that when closing Firefox and I'm invited to SAVE my tabs and

Use of article comments
Ever since article commenting was made available, the majority of
comments have been support requests, even though the intent is to get
article feedback. We had a long discussion about this a year ago [1],
and out of that discussion came the "Need more Help?" text[2], a change
in wording[3], and we even hid it by default[4].
Last week, I got notifications for 314 article comments, 16 of which I
considered useful. That's ~5%. The problem has not gone away. It's so
bad, I provide a weekly report of article comments to Cheng for common

about bug 446071
Hello,
I saw this bug
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446071
has been marked as verified fixed.
It is indeed a good thing, but there are two issues:
1) The strings are two and are too long. English words are usually
shorter than Italian words, and so I had to leave something outside in
order to fit the maximum length permitted. This problem could be easily
experienced for other languages.
I think each string should be in turn split in other two strings, or the
maximum string length should be increased (the first option is better, IMO).
2) The Italian t

Should we lock solved threads?
Random thought: one thing we're working hard to accomplish is one-user-per-thread.
So while we should keep solved threads around so users can find the answers without having to make a new thread, if the solved thread does NOT answer their question, they'd be better served by making a new thread rather than posting a "THIS DIDN'T HELP ME!" in a solved thread.
Unsolved threads are going to soon be much less of a problem because the default search won't search them.
If we locked solved threads, that would help streamline things a little better (and make for better metrics, hopefully.)

KB update: Feb 1 - 7
There's no meeting today, so here's my KB update:
* I've uploaded options window split files for others to help, but there
are character encoding issues. (e.g.
I configured the server to serve txt files in that directory as UTF-8,
but obviously it needs to differ depending on the file. I had the same
problem in Thunderbird, but found that viewing them in Gmail worked fine.
* SHOWFOR version detection is fixed on prod.
Here are is the understandability rating on a couple of articles
affected by it:

group tabs
This would be great if the tabs were grouped. For example, let us
suppose we have three tabs opened in the same FireFox window, namely
tab A, B and C. If I open a new link in tab A, the new tab (AA) is
opened in fourth position. It would be easier and clearer for the user
to have it grouped with tab A, so to have tabs in order A, AA, B and
C.
Thx.

had some bugs to be worked out. I will say I am pleased with the
standard edition, especially with the way it downloads to my setup,

Fastdial causing address bar issues/spam in bookmarks/changing default search engine
They just released an update that is apparently almost-malware -- can break address bar, inserts unwanted bookmarks, hijacks your default search engine, messes with tab behaviour. Fastdial has a LOT of users so I expect we'll get some unhappy traffic about it. Solution is to uninstall the extension. May need to manually reset toolbars and controls in safe mode to fix broken things and manually delete the spam bookmarks.
Anyhow, here's a heads up.

If you were planning on calling into the regular SUMO meeting today, it's been moved to 8:30 PM EST to accommodate the fact that I'm in the Hong Kong time zone. This of course doesn't affect the SUMOdev meeting tomorrow.
Sorry about the late notice. I just remembered to make the broader announcement outside the regular attendees.

I know you can right click -> save link as, but sometimes you can't do
that like if the link redirects to a file. So, if there were a browse

Mozilla Firefox v3.0.5 - with banking logins
I've used Firefox browser for past five years without problems,

After v3.0.5 upgrade last month I find when accessing banking websites

A suggestion on the Add-on installer.
I've got a small suggestion on the Add-on installer. It's s little
thing but it bugs me all out of proportion to the actual problem
because its a wasted step. I love Firefox but if this is bothering
me, it's probably bothering other people as well.
When the installer detects that add-on updates are available, it asks
you if you want to install them. Then after the install, you have to
hit continue. It's the second continue button that annoys me. Unless
there was a problem with the installation, I'd prefer that it just
continue without requiring the extra step. It's redundant. I

Firefox Bookmarks Improvement Suggestion
Hello!
I have a lot of folders and websites organized inside my Firefox
bookmarks. When i use the search bar (the one located inside the
Firefox bookmarks) it finds quickly the website im looking for ,but i
don't know in which folder that website is located.
It would be great to be able to see the path of folders in which that
website is located.
For example if im looking for the word Firefox inside my bookmarks i
should see:
Bookmarks Menu >> Open Source Browsers >> Firefox
Because that's the place where it's located.
That is all

An idea
I just though how useful it would be to have several home pages.
There would be a default one, as at present.
Then the others would be available from a button bar in the first tab.
All the pages could load in the background.
You could set a refresh interval for a home page too.
I suppose it is a sort of development of favourites also. Home pages
are your favourite favourites though...

driving me crazy
I have to say, firefox 3.05 (OSX.4 PPC) is driving me crazy. Pages
keep hanging, i.e. when leaving a blog comment it will just sit there
indefinitely with the wheels turning (and double-post if I hit the
button again).
And for some reason, many sites will not auto-fill passwords, even
though they do so in Safari. Maybe this is some preference I haven't
found yet, IDK
The other thing is the bookmarking system. When you hit "bookmark
this page" the window that opens is tiny, barely resizable and
completely useless. Why can't it open the nice big "manage bookmarks"
window right

Blocking Contributor's forum from non-contributors
So I know I was pushing to allow regular users to post in threads on the contributor's forum but after a couple months of this, it's not turned out to be such a hot idea. I don't think there's been more than one useful comment and there's a LOT of people who are posting in the wrong place because they're confused. This isn't good.
I'd like to revert to only allowing contributors to post to the contributors forum. We're no longer using it for issue tracking because of the heavy amount of irrelevant comments anyhow so the impetus for the original decision has faded.
