Empty trash and compact folders in ver 3.6

I upgraded to version 3.6 today. Now "empty trash" will not run. Also "Compact folders" now seems to have such a low CPU priority that it is difficult to get it to run. Are these changes in version 3.6? -- Replace you know what by j to email

Spell-check idiot-proofing

Some may have noticed that I never brag about my typing skills--there is a reason for that. It is especially apparent when I am working with this laptop keyboard. One of the results is that every character I type may have been intended to be any of as many as 8 or 9 characters around the one you see. (If you see an "r", I might have intended to type any from the set 4-5-t-f-d-e-r.) As long as what I type is a letter, there is a chance the spell-checker will save me--if I pay attention (which is another problem entirely--code is not going to help with that). But if the error-

I had once posted that when there are some messages in a TB folder, and I move a message from somewhere else to this folder, and this moved has an older date than some of the messages already in this folder, this newly moved message gets added to the bottom of the list. Insert file - Thanks! Comment level next? I like TB3!

People, I have been following some of the complaints about TB3 and am a little surprised. I converted from Evolution some time ago and have been pretty happy about it. There have been some issues but I am generally happy with the continued development. I just noticed that I can now insert a text file from the "Other v" button (on the odd occasions I had to do this I had been manually editing the "Drafts" file). About the only thing that I miss occasionally now is the ability to change the comment level up or down by highlighting a block and clicking buttons. TB3 works

That was the last straw [rant]

I'm usually a very relaxed and balanced person, but Thunderbird, both 2 and 3, have managed to drive me nuts. The last straw was when Thunderbird 3 decided to completely destroy my entire profile. For fun. It started with random error messages when trying to open mailfolders, such as "path to long to create index". So I restarted Thunderbird and it came up completely empty, without any accounts. I checked my .thunderbird folder - empty. It went from 4.6GB to 4.1MB, everything was gone. Needless to say this is totally and utterly unacceptable. Picture this happening to upper man

I sent this message to the list in June last year, but did not get any replies. Anybody around now who can help? I'm using TB 2.0.0.23 under Windows Vista. In the list of columns that can be displayed, Date appears and that is the date the email was sent. But there does not appear to be any Date Received. I know that one can get that for a specific message by View > Headers > All, but that's a bit tedious. I can see also that an approximation can be deduced from the Order Received column in the display (also a bit tedious). Why can't we just have Date Sent and Date

Reverted to TB2

Well, after operating nicely for a while, after loading TB3.0.3, it went into a slow death spiral, starting with database (newsgroup) corruption, and leading to email database (.msf file) corruption, and refusal to even try to send a reply, or forward. Rather than continue to try to use it, I have reverted to TB2. I gave it my best shot, but I give up. Maybe 3.1 will be more stable.

I gather the tabs are meant for emails, but having the tab toolbar around when reading newsgroups is pointless. It would be fine if tabs allowed you to have multiple news accounts open at the same time (although its already possible in the account list pane but you can only have one newsgroup open at any one time). Right now, since it appears to be useless to me, I'd like to get rid of it as its taking up valuable height in the screen real estate of my laptop.
