Proposed work for Universal Charset Detector

I need to adapat the Universal Charset Detector for use in an email application, SpamAssassin. I am proposing to do the follwing work: 1) Further separate the base charset detector code from the xpcom glue. The base code would be compiled into a static library which would then be linked together with the xpcom glue into a shared library. 2) Modify UniversalChardetTest so that it links against the static library, removing the dependency on xpcom. 3) Create the framwork for a regression test suite. 4) Fix the outstanding detection bugs. Hi, I'd like to read an OS file in Mozilla code. Is there any way to get the system default charset (from C++ code)? I think I want essentially whatever nl_langinfo(CODESET) returns. nsIPlatformCharset looks promising but does not seem to contain anything for file _contents_ (only filenames). -biesi

Linux + Thunderbird + Korean input

I can see Korean chars in email using Thunderbird. However, Thunderbird (both English and Korean version) will not accept both English and Korean chars into email that I'm composing. It's all English or all Korean. If I use GTK_IM_MODULE=hangul then it's all Korean. No English letter is accepted by Thunderbird. How do you do? I am planning to use Mozilla's chardet library. I found a document at http://www.mozilla.org/projects/intl/chardet.html However I don't quite get how to use the library. In other words, what library to link, what header files are neccessary, and so on. Most header files seems to be for its internal use. What header files should I use if I use it for my own projects? Problem with custom keyboards...

We have a custom Tongan keyboard built with Keyman (http://www.tavultesoft.com/). To produce the acute version of the vowels the users press the control key plus the vowel. For example ctrl+a = á. The alt+vowel keys produce a macron (ā) and work fine with FireFox - however the ctrl+vowel keys produce nothing. It looks like the ctrl key events are being eaten by FireFox. Our keyboard works in almost any Windows application you can name Notepad, WordPad, Word, and, should I say it... Internet Explorer. I currently see a problem with named anchor that has Korean/Japanese character. The hyperlink doesn't work . But it works fine if the named anchor is English.
