This is a new system that will put cash into your paypal account.
First, you deposit 1 dollar into the account listed below. Then leave
your information on where you'd like the re-inbursement system to add
5 times (or 5 dollars) back into yours. It will take a few weeks to

Venkman, MacOS X
Hello
I am using the latest MacOS X (10.4.10), the latest Firefox (2.0.0.6),
and the latest Venkman (0.9.87). Nevertheless I have the following
problem when tying to debug a javascript:
The source window jumps to another file and opens it. The file name is:
file:/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/components/nsUrlClassifier
Table.js
I can't do anything with the file I want to debug. Vankman always jumps
to that file.
Does anybody have an idea what's going wrong?
Many thanks in advance.

venkman and firebug loading source code for a page without sending the params that were sent when the browser made the call
hi all,
i am debugging a site with venkman and firebug.
it seems the debuggers try to get their own copy of the source from the
web server (instead of taking the browser's copy as i would expect) and
call it without the params it needs (which the browser itself did send
when it loaded the page).
i am interested to know if this behaviour is by design. it would seem
strange to me if it were so, since different params might mean totally
different source sent to the browser.
(in case it matters the page on which i saw this problem handles a
multipart/form-data form submition.)

Firefox1.5: DOMParser.parseFromString() returns "[Document] null"
Hi All,
The following code returns a valid xmlDoc (since I can evaluate and
selectNodes) but its value is "xmlDoc=[Document] null" ?! Or at least
this is what the FireBug shows, though alert(xmlDoc===null) is false.
var parser = new DOMParser();
var xmlDoc = parser.parseFromString( responseText, "text/xml");
// at this point: xmlDoc=[Document] null
I'm a bit lost on what this actually means..
Any ideas?

Sebastian

problems on firefox 1.5.0.1

i use Venkman 0.9.86 from http://getahead.ltd.uk/ajax/venkman, which
seemed to work first.
I get the following message in "Interactive Session":

[ADMIN] mozilla-jsdebugger is moving!
It should be no secret these days that the Mozilla Foundation and its
related projects are no longer a pet project of Netscape, yet the
newsgroups we are using for public discussions still bear the Netscape
name. We've been planning for years to move from
netscape.public.mozilla.* to just mozilla.*, and the time has finally
come!
In August, we announced a partnership with Giganews Newsgroups
(http://www.giganews.com/) to provide NNTP services for our
news.mozilla.org domain. It's taken a few months of planning to make
it happen, but we're now in the process of moving all of those

Venkman is borked? (I'm seeing strange non-JS like behavior)
Hey,
A while ago, I wrote a guide to Venkman, and felt I got a good workout
in it's use. However, since that time, both from readers of my guide,
and from own experience, something has been amiss with Venkman. I'm
writing here, to see if this can be cleared up, as it's frankly
perplexing to me.
A pretty standard way to start debugging in Venkman, is to load
venkman, press "stop", and reload the browser with the desired js.
However, when this is done, it seems as if the browser will first
perform a "parse" or something similar, before it does it's "usual"
thing.

Venkman to deal with aumoted browser startup
Hello,
I've been using venkman a lot recently and the need has arised for the
ability to start venkman up when the browser launches [1].
Additionally I need a way to have venkman pause/stop (not sure what the
case is) until I can set a few break points and then let me have some
way to trigger it to continue execution [2].
This need exists for use with selenium (www.openqa.org/selenium). I
have a driven mode version of selenium which automatically lanches the
browser and begins testing web applications with javascript. Its quite
neat, but excessively tough to debug.

Venkman and Firefox 1.5RC3 bug
With Firefox 1.5RC3 and no extensions except for DOM Inspector and
Venkman 9.84 or 9.85, any window whose contents are generated by
javascript code "loses" the document.title of that page. An example can
be seen at rk.onet.net/notitle.html. It works fine with or without
Venkman on Ver 1.07.
The problem also exists when writing to frames.
BTW, I cobbled the install.rdf to get 9.84 to install on 1.5RC3.
Anyone know if it's worth while posting a new bug to Bugzilla?

Venkman vs Win32 app
Hi
Is it possible to use venkman for any embedding? I've added spidermonkey
JavaScript support to my win32 app, and would like a debugging service.
If not, do you have any recomendations on where to start? Maybe I have to go
all the way from the jsd API?
thanks

Latest version venkman checked in in CVS ?
Hi,
I noticed that the latest available xpi (venkman-0.9.85.xpi) does not
contain the same code as checked in the source tree.
I tried to build a new version for the 1.1 alpha release, but had to
modify the xpi package iso build it from code.
What is the status of venkman. Is it maintained ? will there be a
version for 1.1 ?

Changing font size/family in Venkman
Venkman's "Source Code" window is set to a really large default font
size setting (at least on Windows using Firefox). I'd like to change
the font size so I can squeeze more code into that window. Anyone know
how to do this?
I've read all the help docs from typing /help in the "Interactive
Session" tab but no luck getting the font size to change. I realize
there must be some stylesheet Venkman is using but cant seem to find
it.
Any help would be great! Thanks,

pasting multiline text into the interactive session text field
Hi,
Is there any way I can past multiline text into the input text box for
the interactive session? For example, if I paste this in:

{"ircEvent": "PRIVMSG", "method": "deleteURI", "regex":
"^delete.*"},
{"ircEvent": "PRIVMSG", "method": "randomURI", "regex":

};
it gets truncated at the first line break. Any body know of a way to do
this?
Thanks very much,

Improve display of DOM nodes.
A really useful improvement to Venkman would be to improve the display
of DOM nodes in the Local Variables and Console windows.
The current display is cluttered by large amounts of DOM constants and
element properties. It is very hard to look at the children and
attributes of a DOM element - 9 times out of 10 that is what you want to
know.
It would be much better to invert the current structure and expose the
structure of the DOM nodes. It would then be possible to show
non-DOM object properties at a deeper nesting level.
This would also fit in with x4j xml literals which c

I wasn't able to find any information about this in bugzilla or the

Strangely, the error does not appear if I uncheck the selected page in

Inconsistent break points in XBL source.
Venkman 0.9.85 FF 1.8B2 5/10/2005.
I get inconsistent display of XBL lines for which a break point may be
set. I sometimes have to reload FF two or three times in order to set a
breakpoint in a desired section. The access to lines also seems to
change during execution. If I can get a breakpoint set in a location
which actually breaks, I can then set other breakpoints. Access seems to
be on an all-or-nothing basis for a particular method/property etc.

Rhino debugger to remote machine?
Has anyone worked on getting Rhino's debugger to work over a network
connection to a remote Rhino-enabled server?
I'm looking at doing something of that nature, and would like to avoid
reinventing this particular wheel if possible.
Background: LiquidOffice (a form-server type thing) supports server-side
script through Rhino, and one of the features we're considering for a future
release is to let people debug their scripts. Being limited to dumping
things into a log file is... confining.

Howto use venkman for dummies please?
I'm pretty much frustrated with JS and Firefox.
I have some webpages written for IE and trying to make them Firefox
compatible. The problems start with Firefox not showing error messages. He
simply swallows the JS silently. It just doesn't work, not even a "<body
onload='alert()'>" is working and he doesn't tell me why...
There is JS that works, but if there is one error, the engine seems to shut
down completely and silently.
So I tried Venkman, but I can't figure out how to get any useful info out of
it. He always jumps into files like "button.xml", "browser.xml" or

What do people use Venkman for?
I can't figure Venkman out. Here is a 4 line script I am trying to Step
Into:
1) <html>
2) <head>
3) <title>test</title>
4) <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
5) var a=1;
6) var b=5;
7) var c=10;
8) document.write("<div>" + (a+b) + "</div>");
9) </script>
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>
When I click on Stop in Venkman and then reload a page with the above script
on it and nothing else, Venkman halts the execution at line 5. Then, when I
successively click on Step Into, these are the lines the debugger moves to:
5 (start) a, b, and c are undef

Venkman on Thunderbird?
Will there ever be a Venkman for Thunderbird?
Why do you want such a thing? You man ask.
Because I want to develop a couple of JS plugins for Thunderbird.
I will need to debug them.
I decided to see if Venkman would run on Thunderbird with minor mods....
I have hacked the xpi for Firefox to install on Thunderbird. I'd also
hacked the xul overlay so that the Tools menu gets a Javascript Debugger
entry, but
when clicking on this menu the Venkman window did not appear, and
looking in the DOM inspector, I saw the Venkman window existed, but
was not displayed, and was incomplet

I found this great little site
I found this great little site. I signed up two weeks ago and got 2 Disney tickets and this week they are sending me 2 Universal Studios tickets. Here's the link http://66.219.102.40/ and by the way I am a real person, this is my real email address. I'm not a spammer and didn't appreciate the nasty email I got last time I tried to post this link.
Thanks, Lisa

JSDB has a remote debugger
Howdy folks,
I bit the bullet and wrote a remote debugger for SpiderMonkey. It runs in a
Windows command line shell. Sources (rs/wrap_debug.cpp) are on the web site,
too. More documentation is coming soon.
Robert, can you see any way that this might work with Venkman?
http://www.jsdb.org/debugger.html
Debugging a program requires two processes, both implemeneted in JSDB
A. The debugger console
B. The program being debugged
A (debugger.js) listens on a socket
B (debug.js) connects to A's socket and halts, waiting for instructions.
A shows B's status and prompts for in

window.opener: IE vs. Mozilla
Hi,
I have a popup date picker. As soosn as the window pops up, 'next' and
'previous' months can be browsed using 2 links.
When the user clicks on a single link next for example, the calendar is
recreated in the popup window. Now the problem is that window.opener changes
in
Mozilla from the original parent to the previous popup (from which we
clicked on next), but IE holds the original parent window although we
recreated the popup using next. I want mozilla to function like IE or
something to solve it.
Any help is greately appriciated.

does the Venkman tutorial or the debugger work for anyone?
Hi,
I'm trying to do an example in the Javascript debugger tutorial here(page 3
"Basic Debugging"):
http://www.svendtofte.com/code/lear...kman/basics.php
Here is the example script:
Code:
3) <script >
4) var a = 1;
5) function test(a) {
6) var t = "passed : ";
7) return t + a;
8) }
9) var b = test(a);
10) document.write("<p>" + b + "</p>");
11) </script>
I clicked the Stop button in the debugger and reloaded the script, and Line
4 was highlighted in yellow(the tutorial says it should be line 3). I typed
'a' into the Interactive Session input line, and hit

Debugger does not break into code
Hi,
I'm having problem using the JS debugger. I'm reading this guide
http://www.svendtofte.com/code/learning_venkman/basics.php
to find out how to use the debugger, and although I've used plenty of
debuggers in the past, I can't figure out how this Venkman thing works.
I have a pretty simple HTML file here:

<head>
<script type="application/x-javascript"
src="piggy-bank.js"/>
<script language="javascript">
function getStore2() {
debugger
getStore();
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<span onclick="alert('a'); getStore2();">click me</span>

Hi,
What is the status of Venkman?
Is the project still under development? From the author's page:
"http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/venkman/" the last change was made more
than one year ago: "vnk0.9.79 8/27/2003" .
Thanks in advance,

I have never seen a "Web Development" section under Tools in Firefox.
I have had a couple of different versions, and just upgraded to 1.0PR.
I have even reinstalled venkman and restarted the browser afterwards,
and it is not under Tools. What is the deal? Can anyone help me?

Re: AW: jsd-Interface usage
(cc'ing npm.jsdebugger for posterity)
PCMAP_PRETTYPRINT means that the line number passed to
isLineExecutable() or setBreakpoint() is relative to the pretty
printed version of the function's source. PCMAP_SOURCETEXT means the
the line number is relative to the source file where the script was
defined. Pretty Printing, in this case, is exactly what you get from
the toSource() function. All pretty printed scripts start at line 1.

JavaScript-debugging from an extension
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello!
I want to watch the execution of JavaScript-Programs in webpages.
So I wrote an extension with the information about the
debuggerservice
(http://www.xulplanet.com/references/xpcomref/comps/c_jsjsddebuggerser
vice1.html) and venkman (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/venkman/). I
was able to write a scriptHook-handler which gets called each time a
script in a website is detected. Now I want to set breakpoints to
each line, to follow execution. But none of my other hooks
(executionHook, debuggerHook, debugHook etc.) is called.
