Nedd help re Tbird 3.0.1
I know this is the wrong newsgroup, but will someone direct me to the
proper one?
I installed Thunderbird 3.0.1 and am extremely disappointed with it it.
I want to ditch it and go back to the last 2 series version. I cannot
find a ng with "Thunderbird" or "Tbird" in its name. I have opened
various groups with "Mozilla", but they have all been inactive except
for tons of spam. Two or three months ago I tried to subscribe to one of
the help groups, but I'm still waiting for a reply to my request to join.
I have been using Tbird and its ancestors for many years and would like

Rewrapping long single-line quotes upon sending?
Hi everyone!
I've been reading up on this issue for half an hour now and I have not
gotten any further as that it seems Thunderbird (at least) has a real
issue here:
Whenever I reply to someones incorrectly unwrapped (or using quoted
printable) message, Thunderbird displays the long line without wrapping
in the composition window. This is annoying, but I have kind of gotten
used to it.
Now a colleague complained that his Outlook (yuck, I know) doesn't
display my quotes correctly (while my TB does). And looking at the
source code of my sent messages, I can see that Thunderbird a

Hi,
Forgive me if this is a FAQ - if so, please point me to the document and
I'll stop bothering you!
I currently run Thunderbird (2.0.0.23) on my desktop machine. It stores
everything in a folder called khvlts68.default in my .thunderbird
directory (I'm running Mandriva Linux 2010.0, BTW).
What I'd like to do is to store the profile folder on a USB stick, so
that I can run Thunderbird on my laptop without having to import/export
stuff all the time - effectively the profile folder gets shared between
the two instances.
I've tried the obvious, moving the profile folder to t

Testers for Thunderbird 3.0 RC wanted
Hi Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, Lightning users
We are one and a half weeks away, if the developers stay on schedule,
before we get
builds for the first RC. Like I did for Thunderbird 3.0b4, I'd like to
get some people willing to spend from 20 minutes to one hours testing
the builds and reporting it in Litmus.
For the last round of testing we ended up with 10/12 volunteers signing
up and almost all of them showing and doing tests. I'd like to thank
them publicly because without them we wouldn't have felt sure that our
build was good. Since then we had the upgrade from earlier version t

I can get to the address book by clicking the large "Address Book" icon
on the icon bar no problem.
Why might that be?

Is this a bug in Thunderbird or due to the nntp-protocoll with my slow

Editing a Message as New When There are Embedded Images
When mailing others a message that contains embedded images, I run a
risk of not being able to use the msg again with the "Edit a Message as
New" facility. If one tries, the images are gone. I suspect there's a
good reason for that, but, nevertheless, is there a way to get around
it? This really is disconcerting if one goes to all the trouble of
putting captions in the body that support the images, and gets an e-mail
address wrong. One gets to do it all over again for that person.

KKeyboard shortcuts for tags in Thunderbird 2
Hello all,
I have about 25 tags set up for Thunderbird. The first half of them are
automated tags based on where the email came from or is sent to etc. The
remaining ones are the ones I use manually. However, I don't know any
way to use keyboard shortcuts with these higher numbered tags (from 10
onwards). Is there any way to do it? I can't see any way to re-order the
tags so that the automatic ones are the higher numbers and the manual
ones are lower numbers. Nor do I know of a way of assigning a key to a
specific tag (which would be great).
Any ideas

Thunderbird mail problem
I use Virgin newsgroups and News.individual.NET under Thunderbird 2.0.0.21.
There is one newsgroup I subscribe to and to which I added a post two days
ago. For some reason, using NIN, no posts are visible in this newsgroup
since 19th December, yet when I do a search, my post comes up but I can't
open it! I've tried unsubscribing and then re-subscribing but no luck.
Also, under Virgin News everything is normal and under OE6 everything is
fine.
Any suggestions?
Regards and thanks in advance

I keep feeling like I should move over to IMAP ...
.... but my pop3 setup works ok for me. Is there any good reason to switch?
I use Unison to synchronise my thunderbird profile between 2 machines.
This works fine, but is a slight pain if I want to send an email when
I'm at my media centre. I have to go upstairs or grab the laptop and
synchronise before doing it. That's obviously the downside of pop3.
However, I've had a quick look at Imap, and I don't like the way that
each account has a separate inbox. I like everything in one inbox, which
I always clear into different folders. I can't see a way to set up imap

Saves searches don't synchronise very well between machines
Hello all,
I use Unison to synchronise email between my machines. This works great
except for saved searches. These seem to mess up and need reassigning
whenever I use a different machine and then the same again when I sync
back to the first machine.
Is there any way around this? Does anyone know the cause?
Thanks

Thunderbird 2 (Mac) questions
I've been using the Mozilla Seamonkey suite for several years, now only
use it for email as Firefox is (in my opinion) much better than
Seamonkey for web browsing.
I did give Thunderbird a chance a while back but found out that it
didn't quite have the features I was used to, so I was wondering about
the current and/or soon-to-come versions of Thunderbird:
1) Does/will Thunderbird allow for multiple user-profiles, like
Seamonkey does?
2) Will Thunderbird integrate better with MacOSX? This includes using
the MacOSX address book and having a more MacOSX user-interface (I'm n

Merging two profiles
Hi,
I had Thunderbird on two machines, one Windows and one Linux.
The Windows machine has now gone, and having taken a backup of the
profile directory, I would like to know if there is a way of merging the
two profiles together on the Linux box.
I looked in the FAQ and found the entry "Move an existing profile or
restore a backed up profile", but that's not quite what I want to achieve.
Can anyone help?

Email Storage Problem
I hope this is the right group.
I have been using Thunderbird for email. When I was getting ready to
switch web hosts I found a place in the program to designate where to
save email on my hard drive, so I designated a file called C:\Email
That seemed to work fine. But after switching hosts, now it seems like
all those emails are just gone. I tried to open them but can't figure
out how to do it.
And I forgot where to find the place to designate where on the hard
drive the emails are stored, so I'm scared to download any more until I
get this all straightened out.

And the second point is to triage General bugs and move them to a better

setting font sizes *everywhere* in Thunderbird?
My problem comes from the fact that I also began to use TB on an EEE PC
(under linux). Because the screen of that device is relatively small,
real estate is expensive. One of the obvious way is to reduce the font
size used up by programs like TB.
Of course, there is an option panel for fonts and that includes setting
the font size. However that seems to set the font for the message panel
only, ie, where the mail itself is displayed. It does not seem to affect
the other panels like:
- fonts used in the menus
- fonts used in the mailbox folder listing

Can't get trebor77@execpc.com to display in Thunderbird
I can't get trebor77@execpc.com my New E-Mail to display in Thunderbird.
I have the account setup but it doesn't display on the left side of the
screen.
I had to drop the old one trebor72 as I was getting to much SPAM.
I was able to save all my old saved E-Mails but would like to put them
under the right heading
Bob in Wisconsin
Please use trebor77@execpc.com to communicate directly.
I can receive those E-Mails which get put into Local Folders for now

Size of attachments in newsgroups
I have only changed over to Thunderbird 2.0.0.9, have newsgroups up and
running ok. I was wondering,in Outlook express the size of attachments
are displayed in the subject column,Thunderbird doesn't seem to have
this, or can in be configured, it's especially useful in a binaries
newsgroup so you know in advance what size the file is,plus if you see a
page full of files and they are the same size then it could be a
malicious posting. Any help with this is much appreciated.

thread watch feature
hey all..
the netscape suite had this feature for the newsgroups. it was removed
or eliminated in later versions.
one was able to keep track of the ones own postings & replies in a
newsgroup. this is a bit different from the thunderbirds watch thread
flag which is rather general. this one is more specific.
is there such an extension for it?

Can one test TB3 alongside TB2
I would be happy to test TB3 beta on my machine but, on the other hand,
my mail client (ie, TB2) is too important for my daily work to have
hikkups. If I install TB3 (on Windows XP), does it replace TB2? I know
(I hope) I can force the execution files themselves to be installed in a
different directory but, in my understanding, TB3 will use the same
profile files than TB2 (in <USER>/Application Data/Thunderbird/...).
Will it mess up the profile file for TB2? (If it makes it any better, I
only use IMAP, ie the mail files themselves are safe).
Thanks for the help (warning?) on this

Netscape 7.1 printing problem
I have been using Netscape 7.1 (German) as e-mail client for many years. No problems.
For unknown reasons since some days ago it is no longer possible to print any webpages
and email messages (in /out):
The print preview shows a blank page and also the printers preview (Epson R200)
shows an empty page to be printed.
Any suggestion how to solve the mistery?

Cannot "Save all" on attachments
Hey, as subject says basically. When I right click on an email
attachment the options "save all" "detach all" & "delete all" are grayed
out. They never used to be until this new update.
Can anyone help? I use save all a lot, its quite annoying having to do
each attachment separately.
I'm using Thunderbird Portable v2.0.0.18
Thanks in advance for any help :)

which pref controls
Long ago, I was having a problem where I could not type or paste text into
the mail composer so that it looked like, and was treated like, a quotation.
If I typed a '>' in the first column, it appeared to be in the first column,
but when I sent the message, something would insert a space in front of the
'>' character, putting it into the second column, making it not behave like
a quotation when received by the recipient.
Someone told me about a pref that disables that, and makes it so that if
I put a '>' in the first column with the editor, it gets sent out just
that way. I made tha

deleting messages
I don't seam to be able to delete messages form thunderbird 2 while
accessing my googlemail account
I am using IMAP
I understand that there is only one message and flags make it appear
that the message is in other folders.
I also know it has to be in the googlemail trash can to be delete of the
server.
I just cant get it to work.
Is it finger trouble on my part?
I have tried compacting the trash folder and lots of other stuff that I
have found on the net
I just want to click the big red cross at the top of the screen and have

Test Day 1 for Beta 1 features of Thunderbird 3 - Friday, 11/14
On Friday November 14 please join us in this community effort to stress
test the following features:
* Gloda
* Non-RDF folder pane
* Threaded cross-folder views
Gloda (global database) is an indexer and database, the backend to major
improvements to come in search capability, data aggregation and
visualization, and productivity. Gloda works in the background, and is a
layer on top of (not a replacement for) the existing folder-centric
message storage mechanism. Non-RDF folder pane provides backend
improvements for future improvements to the folder pane, and a

More problems moving attachments to Thunderbird
On a previous thread, I asked how to move emails from Netscape 4.7 to
Thunderbird. I was told how to locate the email files in Thunderbird
and do a copy. Now I have a similar problem moving some files that
are attached to an email sent to me. When I click on 'save as' to
move them to a Documents file, the only choice is type 'any file'.
When I try to move them from the Document folder to the mail area
of Thunderbird, it creates a folder with that file name, with no
content. The attached files can be opened in Thunderbird, so I know
they can be read by this program. How can I move

I like to have Subject in the first column in emails, and Sender in the
first column in Newsgroups, but it seems as if it's got to be one or the
other for both. Is it possible to specify them separately, and if so, how ?
