control opening behavior
Under linux, how can i get firefox 1.0.6 to **always** open non-minimized?
It drives me wacky to have to always go that extra step to restore it when i
open a new firefox window. I can fix it temporarily by closing the various
browser windows from a restoredstate and then opening a window, but thats
only temporary.
Is there a pref or .js somewhere that will force new windows to always open
in a restored state (shoudnt that be the default behavior? why would anyone
start a new copy of firefox in a minimized state?)
Thanks,
Eric

[ADMIN] mozilla-prefs is closing
It should be no secret these days that the Mozilla Foundation and its related projects are no longer a pet project of Netscape, yet until recently, the newsgroups we've been using for public discussions still bore the Netscape name, and our primary news server still lived on AOL (formerly Netscape) hardware. We've been planning for years to move from netscape.public.mozilla.* to just mozilla.*, and this last January, the time finally came!
In August, we announced a partnership with Giganews Newsgroups (http://www.giganews.com/) to provide NNTP services for our news.mozilla.org domain. It

Feature request for creating Live CD
I am running into a roadblock for creating a Live CD (or read-only USB

for selecting an alternative location for the profiles.ini file
itself. I would like a way on the command line to specify an

autoconfig firefox and thunderbird
To the mozilla autoconfig community that I know :
I need to deploye firefox & thunderbird for more than 2000 students
withing few weeks !
I used with success and lot of interests autoconfig in mozilla 1.X:
http://www.int-evry.fr/s2ia/user/procacci/netscape/en/mozilla-autoconfig-en.html
that feature (autoconfig) seems to be ported to firefox/thunderbird
projects as the autoconfig directory and prefcalls.js file are still
part of the distribution. New docs talk about it :

Wishlist item for Mozilla Firefox Preferences: Selectable saved Information Clearing
Greetings All,
Something that I would like to see in Firefox is selectable saved
information clearing. Right now, you can select to clear your history,
cache, saved forms, etc, individually.
I like the idea of having check boxes by each of these (and the option
to save the checked boxes) each time I clear the data. For example, I
routinely clear my history with the exception of my saved passwords. I
would like to be able to check everything except saved passwords (or
whatever combo that I choose) to clear every time I do a one button

Font Size Question
I just installed a new video card and I noticed that my font size in

How can I make these fonts smaller? I think I have tried changing
Appearance settings in Display Properties and also I have played with
the font sizes in Netscape Preferences. Any other thoughts?

Wishlist for Thunderbird... please email me with responses/flames etc...
Hi everyone,
I am a recent convert so to speak from MS Outlook to Thunderbird 0.9. It
took me forever and a day to migrate each of my individual folders and
messages from Outlook over to Thunderbird and I am still paying the
price now because it looks like my Outlook.PST files were too difficult
for Thunderbird to handle. Because of this, I have some questions and
hope someone has some answers.
I would also if possible greatly appreciate it if someone sends me an
e-Mail with the answers because chances are I won't be able to find this

cookie management
Often I visit a web site that I will not likely visit again, but which wants
to set LOTS of cookies. I am tempted to select "Use my choice for all

Exceptions list.
If the Exceptions list contained the date on which the last related cookie

old entries from time to time.
Another annoyance is the inability to display cookies based on the domain.

IMAP Preferences in Thunderbird
Hi all,
ok, it would be extremely nice to be able to store your imap preferences
for IMAP on the mail server itself, so that when you go to another
machine, you can install Thunderbird and then just log in to your IMAP
account, and it would pick up all of the filters, and other settings.
It would seem that you could do this by simply saving a mail message
that Thunderbird looks for in a particular folder.
That would also be cool to sync between clients on different machines
(say at work and at home).
Things like a dozen filters are difficult to synchronize...

Mozilla 1.7 Cache fails to recognize new page
I'm a web designer. I publish a new version of a web page and Mozilla
still uses the cached version even though I have selected "Compare the
page in the cache to the page on the network: Every Time I view the page".
IE recognizes a change if I only republish the FLASH element on the
page. Mozilla eventually does but I can't figure out what the trigger
is. Not very user friendly when I'm making frequent updates.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a fix?

The problem is: I enter on this page, post the data and the result is

results. However, if I post the data, click on the back button, change
the parameters which will be send by the form and submit again, it shows
me the result of the last query, stored in cache.
It is a serious problem,

Programming Netscape to Disable Print Headers and Footers
Greetings,
I'm in somewhat of a jam and was wondering if there was anyone out there
that could give me a helping hand.
The issue at hand is a client is wanting the header and footer to remain
hidden when printing, because the printed page is to be filed (they're
invoices). I've managed to do this successfully in Internet Explorer,
but have had NO luck in reproducing this functionality in Netscape.
One other very important thing to note: the client would like to be able
to achieve this without ANY interaction with the browser. So going to

Although this seems like a crypto question, I think it's really
equivalent to the question "is there a way to set mozilla user
preferences for the user?". That question would be better asked in
one of the other mozilla newsgroups.
Sorry. It's a shame there are no PSM developers contributing to this

where to twinkle this email template problem: background: url() replaced?
Hello. I have a very cute email template (HTML file) with picture
reference to my website. I don't want to send an email with dozen (12+)
of pictures.
I learned I should use moz-not-send property to prevent mozilla from
shipping referenced picture with the email. But if the email is in
stylesheet what should I do?
In my template:
body { backgroud: url(http://my.web.site/mybg.png) }
but when the mail is sent the mail source changed to:
body { background: url(<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext"
href="http://my.web.site/mybg.png">http://my.web.site/mybg.png</a>) }

Opening multiple tabs at once
I have been using Firebox for a while now and love the feature of being
able to open a group of bookmarks with one click, into multiple tabs.
The documentation and preferences for Mozilla 1.6 make it seem that this
browser can do the same, but I cannot for the life of be figure out how.
Any suggestions/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Error When Saving Prefernces
I recently switched from IE to Mozilla. After installing Mozilla I set
my preferences and I get the following error when trying to save:
"Failed to save the preferences file. Any preference changes will be
lost at the end of this session"
I uninstall and reinstalled Mozilla and I get the same results. I am
running Windows XP. Any suggestions?

Machine learning for better default prefs?
Bug 182366 is for using machine learning to order the autocomplete
results. The same concept can be applied to prefs.
A lot of Mozilla prefs use what I consider to be the wrong defaults.
The reasons could be many, but with this technology we can get real
evidence as to what users actually use/prefer.
Is there an open RFE? has this idea been discussed in the past?

abook location
Hello,
I want to have Thunderbird Addressbook to look for aboob.mab in a
specified directory, say D:/DataFiles/AddressBook/
I had that working properly but had to reinstall my system and lost the
prefs.js file and now I cannot find out how I did change that file.
Many thanks for tips,

NS7.1: how can I change the directory of the address book?
Hi!
I wanna share my .mab-file with other useres in my LAN.
But I'm not able to tell NS7 in the user.js to search the
..mab-file in an other directory.
This will only search in the profile path:
user_pref("ldap_2.servers.pab_1.filename", "impab.mab");
I tryed to add a network path like this:
user_pref("ldap_2.servers.pab_1.filename", "h:\\data\impab.mab");
But this does not work?
I have a Linux file server wir Windows clients. I don't want to
install an LDAP-server on my Lunix-machine. I hope there is an
easyer way to share the address books.
Can anybody help?

disabling or hiding mail options on toolbar and panel
hi,
for various reasons, i need to make it so a user can not run mail from
mozilla. i would settle for just removing the icon from either (or
both) the toolbar and the bottom panel of the browser or just hiding
it somehow. does anyone know of a way to do this? thanks so much for
any help!

Disabling Proxys in mozilla for *nix
Hi All,
I dont know if this is the right place to post this but I was wondering
what would be the best way to disable users from changing there proxy
setting?
1. I know you can remove the edit -> prefences
2. I have read that you can use pref_lock but I cannot seem to find out how
to do that (If anyone has any documation please let me know)
is there any other way anyone can think of and of this which is the best
Thanks
