Populating XUL tree from RDF data source
Hi,
I am creating a XULrunner application that contains a tree view. The
content of this tree is generated by a C++ DLL (I need low-level
access to the Windows API and so it cannot be done from Javascript).
Is there a way for me to populate the tree view directly from the C++
function?
Or do I have to create an RDF file from C++ and have Javascript add
the data source? If this is the only way then could someone also point
me to a C++ library that can generate RDF files? I found Brahms
(http://tinyurl.com/yyvskf) from Googling but couldn't figure out
whether it's what I'm looking for.

A too (for me) complex query
I write because I would like to learn more details about the
potentialities of XUL, in particular about RDF and queries. I read some
of the official doumentation, the book 'Rapid Application Development

techniques. I am not an expert programmer so let me try to explain by
examples.
The main scope is to write a user interface in XUL in order to read,
show and edit some simple data dinamically. Normally I can reach this

rdf vs. relational databases
I'm a newbie to RDF and have been facing a fundamental question as read
more about RDF. RDF positions itself away from plain XML
representations of data saying XML suited for representing data with
containment hierarchies, and where "order" is important, whereas RDF
has a flatter structure, represents only references among different
entities. That sounds just like what a relational database is supposed
to do, and those are critieria when deciding whether to used an XML DB
or a relational DB to store your data.
Where does RDF fit in, and how does it compare to relational databases.

Cypher - Natural Language to RDF/SeRQL for the Semantic Web
Hi All,
I thought our technology might interest the group.
Cypher is one of the first software program available which generates
the RDF graph and SeRQL query representations of a natural language
input. The Cypher framework provides a set of robust definition
languages, which can be used to extend and create grammars and
lexicons. The Cypher specifications are designed to allow a novice to
quickly and easily build transcoders for processing highly complex
sentences and phrases of any natural language, and to cover any
vocabulary.

Ordered containers using RDF:_n tag form
I am setting up RAP-RDF API for PHP to feed/manage a mozilla datasource
and have hit a problem.
RAP serializes the data graph using ordinal tags (for both SEQs and
BAGs). eg:
<RDF:Seq>
<RDF:_1>...
<RDF:_2>...
....
</RDF:Seq>
as opposed to:
<RDF:Seq>
<RDF:li>...
<RDF:li>...
....
</RDF:Seq>
When I load this datasource into mozilla the containers all appear empty
to mozilla (GetCount() always returns 0).
Is there anyway to tell Mozilla to expect the container SEQ to have
ordinal tags instead of simple RDF:li tags?
The ordinal tags are very useful on the se

cumulative template rebuild ?
Assuming that a template is defined that generates DOM elements using
rebuild() - my understanding is that these elements get destroyed when the
template is re-generated using a subsequent rebuild() command.
1. is this correct?
2. is there any way of defining a culualtive rebuild() so that elements
generated in the later rebuild() are appended
to those generated in the initial rebuild() ?
3. is there a way of then indexing such a cumulative list of elements ?

[ADMIN] mozilla-rdf is moving!
It should be no secret these days that the Mozilla Foundation and its related projects are no longer a pet project of Netscape, yet the newsgroups we are using for public discussions still bear the Netscape name. We've been planning for years to move from netscape.public.mozilla.* to just mozilla.*, and the time has finally come!
In August, we announced a partnership with Giganews Newsgroups (http://www.giganews.com/) to provide NNTP services for our news.mozilla.org domain. It's taken a few months of planning to make it happen, but we're now in the process of moving all of those newsgrou

RDF Reification
Hi all,
I am trying to write a journal/undo mechanism for RDF statements.
Considering the following arc:
urn:abc => #dc:Title => "bob"
Now if I change the arc's object from "bob" to "fred", I need to store
the old value to be able to undo later.
(Axel, perhaps you could correct me here) it doesn't seem possible to
identify a specific arc without the entire triple?
So I can't say the arc ID of "123456" last object was "bob", so first I
assert:
urn:abc => #dc:title => "fred"
Then to avoid arcs colliding, in a different datasource I assert:
urn:undo:1 => #undo =>

wish: could composite store info about datastores that have been changed?
I wrote code that updates datastore changes to Web too. I'm using
several composite stores for different purposes. One composite is for
reading (because that you can do from the Web directly) and some others
for writing and updating. However, as far as I understand the composite
does in no way support finding out which stores included in the
composite need refreshing e.g. which stores in the composite changed
when I asserted something.
Would it be possible to keep track and tell which one of stores in the
composite need refreshing after the composite RDF was modified by doing

could nextVal just as well die?
I'm in the process of whacking RDF/XML parsing/serialization into a
shape where I can actually do regression tests on it. One of the things
I'm whacking hard is parsing of containers, and now I see that our
assertion of nextVal is pretty brittle. Looking at the mozilla codebase,
it's hardly used, though, so I was wondering wether I should remove the
nextVal arc alltogether, and just cache the nextVal integer inside the
RDFContainer helpers.
That would help with some perf problems, and it would fix a cumbersome
almost-spec problem (nextVal being in the RDF namespace).

new contents to a Web URI that is already also loaded to a composite,
what is the best way to update the composite?
Is it enough to just do a refresh to the remote data source based on the
Web URI? It seems that the composite just keeps track of the component
data sources and does not need to change?

Hi,

Opinions?

Is there a way of forcing the use of MYNS?

different behaviour from two syntactical different RDF files
Hello,
I have some Xul code that shows a tree form a RDF file with a
template. Also I have an external application, which reads the RDF
file, does some things on it and serializes the model to the same file
(I'm using the Redland parser, which does the serialization for me).
The problem is that while the first RDF file shows fine in my browser
(deer park alpha 1), the second one (the external app serialization)
apparently brokes, this means, it stops showing the contents of the
file on the browser.
Both RDF files (the original and the post-parser serialized) validates RDF.

RDF Inspector
For those who are interested, I have recently released version 0.2 of
RDF Inspector, an XPI-installable extension to FireFox that lets you
browse and inspect the contents of an nsIRDFDataSource graphically.
It can either load a URI (including rdf:bookmarks, and other
registered datasources), a file, or a property of a DOM tree (via an
overlay in the DOM Inspector extension).
There are more features planned, though the basics are already
there. Feedback is appreciated, as are patches and translations (as
usual).

Query could be sub-Datasources
Hi,
In my application I will need to access queries in RDF Datasource as new
datasources. I call "query" the selection of a sub-graph of the whole
graph defined by RDF Datasource. This is done for exemple in templates.
Its a sort of filter.
RDF Engine of firefox doesn't seem to support this natively. Instead,
solutions of a "filter" (as GetTarget, GetSource, ArcLabelsOut...) are
outputed as nsIRDFSimpleEnumerator. Thus keeping us away of the
possibilities of "saving" this sub-graph for further natural queries.
Instead, we must loop in the nsIRDFSimpleEnumerator and try to a

One problem is my remote (HTTP/s) URLs requested with GetDataSource(uri)

In part the uri arguments are to allow an incremental loading of large
amounts of RDF data as the CDS doesn't appear to give access to either

As a result of this, I can't separate the URI from the arguments and so

Considerations on RDF/XUL bindings
Hi,
I had to write a quick XML parser in PHP for accessing RDF data. I like
some concept of the choices in XUL. I know use really better XUL

- How can we access to just one element in full XUL (without javascript)
? Say you want that the label of an element of your page should be
gathered in your RDF datasource ...
- What about an "order" statement somewhere in the template declaration
? as ORDER in SQL statement, it should be possible to sort answers. I
know this is possible in trees, or in javascript, but why not give this

Any experience with jslib/RDF objects?
Greetings,
Does anyone have experiences with RDF objects/functions in the jslib
library (http://jslib.mozdev.org/)? It would be great if someone has
some working scripts.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,

Query problem in RDF
Hi,
I can't manage to Query all triples (with javascript functions) that

Interface to RDF Datasource
Why the interface of Datasource provided through nsIRDFDatasource is so
complicated ?
I'm thinking of 2 things :
- why is there several query functions (ArcLabelsIn/Out, GetTarget,
GetSource...), where one function could do the same ? (as in RAP (a php
librairy for manipulating RDF)
function find(a,b,c)
where a,b,c could be null. Find could return a nsISimpleEnumerator
holding Triples. Access to triples would need 3 functions
(getSubject/Predicate/Object).
- Decisions should be taken to whether the truth statement should be
used or not.

truth of statement
What is the current status of the truth of statement ? I was wondering
if this will shortly be considered obsolete ?
I read there was lots of code that just didn't support this facility.
This seems to be obsolete by way of facts !
I'm not using it, but I saw it is heavily used in template code...
This was a log of one of my object that verified the nsIRDFDatasource
interface, and that was used by a template element in my XUL code :
<nsIRDFInference> : HasAssertion called
args = ?array? size = 4 (dump following)
args[0] = [Resource] = http://www.musicalta.com/rdf/anon25

template builder problem ?
Hi,
I'm trying to use the templating system but couldn't manage to do it
simply follow reversly a property. Is this possible :
I just want to draw the classes/subclasses tree of RDF elements
representing classes such as in object programming concepts.
So I have these triples for example in my RDF :
Class --> subClassOf --> Resource
Datatype --> subClassOf --> Class
Property --> subClassOf --> Resource
should draw :
[+] Resource
|- [+] Class
| \- Datatype
\- Property
This seems simple but the fact we must follow a property the other way
round to ask for c

Remote RDF datasource and http authentication
Hi all,
In my chrome application, I use a remote rdf file to populate a tree widget.
<tree datasources="http://localhost/data.rdf" ref="urn:root">
....
</tree>
This works fine if the http server does not require authentication.
If I setup the server to request basic http authentication, the data is
simply not loaded, where I would expect mozilla to open the popup login
box.
I found that if I setup the login/password within the url
(http://login:password@localhost/data.rdf), it works but the
login/password is not synchronized with the one used internally by mozilla

template not showing added facts
Hi,
I'm having trouble getting my listbox template display added facts.
I've tried lb.database.rebuild(), lb.builder.rebuild(), resetting the
datasources and ref attributes on the listbox, and various other
desperate measures, but nothing works. My understanding is that I
shouldn't have to do anything, that a change to a datastore will
automatically cause templates to redisplay.
I know the facts are being added successfully, because I can see them in
the rdf file, and if I close the app and restart it they show up properly.
Any debugging suggestions?

sharing RDF datasource between iframes or through reload
Hi,
I have a problem using RDF through an application made with different
iframe. Basically, the best-fit datasource type for our data is the
in-memory-datasource style. But iframes reloads their javascript, so the
in-mem statement for declaring the javascript variable holding the RDF
datasource catches a new RDF in-mem Datasource (an hole new one, so it
is empty) each time we switch iframes... This forbids us to share the
datasource between iframes...
When developping another application, I've come along with strange RDF
Datasource problems that involved strange artifact s
