Total newbie, don't even know where to start!
I have a C++/Windows application (created in Visual Studio) that needs
to scan the existing Firefox windows and find out what URL each window

Can someone point me to a "getting started" guide that ...

Hi All,
I am trying to modify user preferences in mozilla firefox 1.5.0.12.
I am creating a dependent glue using Gecko 1.8.0.4(linking against

application with Gecko 1.8.0.4 under GRE environment.
The preferences interface comes out to be valid and reading the
preference value is returning correctly. However, modifying the values
is not taking place successfully.
I am not sure whats happening here? I guess, I am not reading the
correct preferences file.
The following is the code snippet that I am trying to execute.

want to set "Enable java script" without launching mozilla using C++ app

My application developed in C++ will launch mozilla. And then make

is launched the "Enable java script" option is enabled. I am

nsIPrintSettings, nsNativeMarginRef, print margins and edges prefs
I need to force page margins and edges to specific values and am using
nsIPrintSettings in a FF3 extension to do it.
There are read/write (apparently) properties of nsIPrintSettings to do
this, but they seem to have no effect. There are also get and set
methods for the values, but they require an argument of type
nsNativeMarginRef. Can anyone enlighten me on it's use?
Additionally, why might there be both a method and a settable property
for the same value?

When to change XPCOM package identification?
Can someone help?
I was using nsIDictionary that was part of Firefox 2. Unfortunately, it
is removed from Firefox 3.
I did copy the nsIDictionary package to my extension components
directory in FF 3. However, I'm not sure if I need to change the name
and id of the nsIDictionary package too or if it still work with Firefox

If it does, which package does it use by default, the system one or the
one I copied to my extension?
Thanks!

cross thread XPCOM object error accessing DOM in FireFox 3
I have a C++ XPCOM object, also have C++ background worker thread.
The XPCOM object generall runs in the context of the tabbed window and
DOM due to being called from events in window javascript event code.
The background worker thread also calls a method on the XPCOM object,
the call would be in the proper thread of the window/dom. XPCOM take
cares of the thread context switch from the background thread to the
main thread when making the call.
In the XPMCOM method we then use SpiderMonkey to call some other

How to retrieve nsIWebBrowser by giving/not giving nsIDOMWindow under firefox
hi everybody~
Sorry for the bothering!
Here is my question. I want to intercept all the events of webbrowser,
so it's natural to use WebProgressListener, but the thing is
progressListener is from nsIWebProgress which should be get from
nsIWebBrowser.
The nsIDOMWindow can be retrieved by letting javascript passing window
into the method. However, firefox seems not using nsIWebBrowser, so I
have no idea at all on how to get the nsIWebProgressListener.
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot!

How to intercept the DOM Document via extension?
Hi everyone,
I am new to firefox development. I have done some work on BHO with C+
+. In BHO, you can use SetSite and OnDocumentComplete to handle the
events of IE, meanwhile you can use IWebBrowser, HTMLDocument
IHTMLDocument to intercept the webpage that the IE is browsing now.
I am just wondering is there anyway you can do the same thing in
firefox? If so, how can I do it.
I checked some references, it seems you can call some interface called
nsIWebProgress, nsIWebBrowser etc. But I didn't see too many examples
on either mozilla page or anywhere else.
I found a ActiveX co

nsIProxyObjectManager
I've written a plugin for firefox that uses bi-directional javascript
communication. I'm using the nsIObserverService to add an observer on
the JS side, and to notify that observer from the C++ side. However,
if I try to communicate to the JS from a worker thread in C++ using
NotifyObservers, the application locks.
Scouring the web I've found information on nsIProxyObjectManager, and
would like to use it, but it is not included in the Gecko sdk.
Any ideas or alternatives?
Thanks

XPConnect newbie questions
Hello,
I am trying to use native DLL in my HTML pages via XPCOM/XPConnect

Components.classes[...].createInstance() and QueryInterface. Now, I
have some questions:
1) It seems that object is not deleted deterministically. E.g. I
create it inside the Javascript function and it doesn't get deleted
when the function ends. When I press F5 (refresh) the object is
deleted, but when I navigate on some other page then the object is not
deleted.
For my purposes, the object will be global for a page - i.e. it will

Getting content from http response ? (http-on-examine-response)
Hi everyone,
I'm writing an extension that inspects the http response content
received from one given http server. So far I've tried to use the
notification "http-on-examine-response" mechanism which allows me to
inspect http headers from the response, but I don't have access to the
actual content of the response. Indeed, you only have access to the
nsIHttpChannel interface, which only has methods to get the headers.
Could anyone point me to the right direction on how to access the http
content please ?
Thanks in advance,

Shareable binaries between gnu g++ and Microsoft Visual C++
Does XPCOM allow binaries to be compiled with one compiler and used by
another?
For example, if I have an XPCOM DLL compiled in Microsoft Visual C++
(MSVC), can it be used by an EXE or DLL compiled in gnu g++? ...or
vise versa? (Note: I'm using Cygwin gcc 3.4.4 on Windows along with
MSVC .Net 2003).
Thanks,

Register a xpCom in xulRunner
Hi,
I followed the steps in
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/xpcom/book/cxc/html/newbookTOC.html and
http://www.iosart.com/firefox/xpcom/. In both cases, I can build a dll,
but when I try to register them, I can see from js only the interfaces,
but not the classes in the js Components.classes array, then I can't
use the component from js. I built it with vs 6 and 2005 on a xp box,
the same in which I am trying to register them in xulrunner.
Is there some document that can tell me what is wrong?, is there some
way to get a log or a code error from xulrunner? can I test the xpcom

Opening an e-mail
Hello. This is a topic that seems to rise from time to time (cf Google
Groups), but I still haven't found a satisfying answer.
My goal is simply to open an e-mail in Thunderbird, knowing its
'internal' identifier after a DND operation, something like
mailbox-message://jla@pop.witbe.net/Inbox#522467953
If I try in command-line, I get a 'mailbox-message is not a recognized
protocol' error. I guess the best solution would be to use XPCOM, but I
never did that before and what I saw of the documentation is, hem, quite
complicated for such a simple task...
Does anybody know whe

pyxpcom nsITimer, tree builder failure
Hello,
Given a python function which updates an RDF dataSource during some
computation tasks. There is non thread capability involed.
The function updateRDF starts registering the currentIndex of the tree
attached to the RDF file (not nice, but I don't succeed in using
didRebuild/willRebuild observer since the rebuild method is not called
in the tree update process, not explicitely, any idea ?) :

Passing JSON object to XPCOM interface
I am implementing a new XPCOM interface in Javascript. I want to pass
JSON object from javascript to XPCOM object.
What should be the IDL definition for this? I tried nsISupports

why the xpidl.exe in the newest 1.8.0.4 can not run?
Dear Readers:
I am new to here, please forgive my "stupid" question: After I download
the newest 1.8.0.4 gecko-sdk I just cannot run the xpidl to create my
first simple demo xpcom.
Does that mean that the xpidl cannot run independently? then which
version of libildl and libglib should I find? I've tried the
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/libraries/win32/historic/vc8/vc8-moztools.zip
but I don't have vc8. (I have VC 2005 express). then What will I do?
Should I compile the total SDK in VC2005exp?
Thanks for your help.
Best Regards
Andy

Launching an XPCOM object from XUL file
Hi friends
I am new to XPCOM,XUL, and mozilla.

When i paste the chrome protocol in the address bar
chrome:\\launch\content\mypage.xml
I see the cookie is created.
but i want to create it programatically. so i tried it with firefox -

Register problem
In fact, for the firefox component, it didn't need to register, only to
delete the xpti.dat and compreg.dat in the profile file. Then restarted
the firefox, through the XPCOM component view, I find my ContractID
showed all right.
And in the xpti.dat and compreg.dat, I can see my component registered
successfully.
But when I clicked the ContractID, its interface didn't expand.
Also, open the firefox, it show createInstance failed,.
What can I do with this?
Help, thx.

can't register simple XPCOM .dll
I had the same trouble:
http://groups.google.com/group/netscape.public.mozilla.xpcom/browse_thread/thread/38cd7dca6e44b1d/56d04683ab981d57?lnk=gst&q=register&rnum=10#56d04683ab981d57
I can't install my XPCOM component in any way. FF or Mozilla silently
ignore my component =/
try on FF 1.5.0.4 & 1.5.0.5 and on mozilla 1.7.13
SOLUTION: The trouble was in gecko-sdk - I was compiled my sources with
gecko-sdk-1.7
but latest version of FF & Mozilla used
gecho-sdk-1.8b1
p.s. has spent 2 days to find solution.
p.p.s. IMHO this is a bug of FF/Mozilla
